This volume of The New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture offers a timely, authoritative, and interdisciplinary exploration of issues related to social class in the South from the colonial era to the present. With introductory essays by J. Wayne Flynt and by editors Larry J. Griffin and Peggy G. Hargis, the volume is a comprehensive, stand-alone reference to this complex subject, which underpins the history of the region and shapes its future. In 58 thematic essays and 103 topical entries, the contributors explore the effects of class on all aspects of life in the South-its role in Indian removal, the Civil War, the New Deal, and the civil rights movement, for example, and how it manifested in religion, sports, country and gospel music, and matters of gender. Artisans and the working class, indentured workers and steelworkers, the Freedman's Bureau and the Knights of Labour are all examined. This volume provides a full investigation of social class in the region and situates class concerns at the centre of our understanding of Southern culture.
The "Encyclopedia of the Battle of Franklin" is the ultimate guidebook for all those interested in this truly momentous conflict. For tourists it's an imperative traveling companion; for Civil War buffs and scholars an indispensable reference; for history students an essential educational tool; and for the casual reader a fascinating chronicle of one of American history's most significant political and military struggles. With nearly 1,000 entries on subjects ranging from Confederate and Union regiments to biographies of important figures associated with the battle, the work also includes hundreds of illustrations, maps, and photos, eyewitness descriptions of the fight, a full list of the Rebel dead at the McGavock Confederate Cemetery, and a complete record of both the C.S. and U.S. forces present on the Franklin battlefield November 30, 1864. This Civil War Sesquicentennial Edition, the first and only encyclopedia ever written that is devoted solely to a single Civil War battle, also includes official battle reports, command structure charts, genealogical information, an entry index, a 1,000 book bibliography, and 19th-Century tributes to Confederate officers who perished at the Battle of Franklin. In addition, the author generously provides material on the battles that immediately preceded it (Columbia and Spring Hill) as well as those that followed it (Nashville and Franklin III), covering nearly every war related historical site on the popular "Antebellum Trail" that today runs through Middle Tennessee. This handy detailed compendium is destined to become a classic in its field. The Foreword is by Michael Givens, Commander-in-Chief of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Lochlainn Seabrook, winner of the prestigious Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal, is a seventh-generation Kentuckian and the author of over thirty popular adult and children's books. Known as one of the world's leading pro-South writers, the unreconstructed Southern historian and poet has a thirty-year background in the American Civil War and Confederate studies and biography. He lives with his wife and family in historic Middle Tennessee, the heart of the Confederacy. An attractive, unique, and popular tourist-friendly work that will appeal to both casual Civil War buffs and hardcore Civil War scholars alike, the "Encyclopedia of the Battle of Franklin" is the perfect addition to any retail outlet, including not only bookstores, but Civil War sites, historic houses, museum gift stores, antique shops, B&Bs, tack shops, motorcycle shops, and gun stores. Seabrook's other titles include: "Everything You Were Taught About the Civil War is Wrong, Ask a Southerner "; "Honest Jeff and Dishonest Abe: A Southern Children's Guide to the Civil War"; "A Rebel Born: A Defense of Nathan Bedford Forrest"; "The Quotable Robert E. Lee"; "Give 'Em Hell Boys The Complete Military Correspondence of Nathan Bedford Forrest"; "Lincolnology: The Real Abraham Lincoln Revealed in His Own Words"; "The Quotable Nathan Bedford Forrest"; "The Quotable Jefferson Davis"; "Nathan Bedford Forrest: Southern Hero, American Patriot"; "The Old Rebel: Robert E. This Index volume to "Brill s New Pauly: Encyclopedia of the Ancient World" relates to the Antiquity volumes (volumes 1 15) and apart from indices, it also provides new materials to aid the reader in the study of the Ancient World. The first part of the volume consists of systematic guides, arranged by theme, to the entries relating to subjects and to persons. A concordance of geographical names helps the reader find ancient places by looking up the modern equivalents. An index of the maps and illustrations and a list of all contributors to these volumes completes the indices. The second half of this volume contains entirely new matter. It presents various lists and tables detailing laws and law codes, treaties, papyri, "ostraka" and manuscripts; weight, volume and monetary systems; as well as chronologies and time calculation systems. Together these form an indispensible gateway to the more than 15,000 entries of this part of the Encyclopedia.
Robert A. Slade, after collecting old fishing tackle since 1958 and contributing articles on old fishing lures for a collector magazine for several years started researching and writing books in the 1990's. He published the HISTORY & COLLECTIBLE FISHING TACKLE OF WISCONSIN in 1999 which sold 4,500 copies. Bob realized that even though there have been many books published on the subject of old fishing lures that few books covered any detailed history on the old lure makers. His latest book writing project was nine years in the making and covers over 100 years of lure making history starting in 1875 and covers over 2,500 lures makers throughout all of North America. THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF OLD FISHING LURES MADE IN NORTH AMERICA is the first publication with extensive history and patent information on old lure makers and the first to include extensive coverage on Canadian lure makers. The author traveled to 11 states and 3 Candian Providences visting collectors homes, newspaper archives, museums and other sources and has taken over 10,000 pictures in preparing the historical stories for these books. The set of books arranges for the individual and company lures makers to appear in alphabetical order. People purchasing these books can buy any one single book, a whole set, or even a book a month if they desire as the books will be printed and shipped on demand. Each book has over 400 pages of text, pictures and collector values with each book containing a table of contents and index as well as a master index for the complete set of books.

WALTER'S ENCYCLOPEDIA is a unique, scientific and personal glossary published by a maverick researcher of our times. This present illustrated version of the glossary is addressed to the great public, next to an academic version that is published separately. The research this glossery covers goes back to 1985 and thus spans a period of 25 years. The Encyclopedia comes in two volumes. The present Volume 1 is a glossary of general, redefined and proprietary terms the author has created and uses in all his nonfiction books. Volume 2 covers personalities, scientists, authors, artists and other people of fame and renown who have some or the other impact upon the author's perception and value system and who are frequently mentioned in his books. This present volume also comes with a fully illustrated Research FAQ regarding child sexuality, child abuse and pedophilia. For the illustrations, art nudes by Irina Ionesco, Robert Mapplethorpe, Sally Mann, Jan Saudek, and Jock Sturges have been used. Some of the most important entries of the present volume are those that are proprietary to the author, such as 'The Eight Patterns of Living', 'The Science of Emonics', 'Emosexuality', 'Emosexcoaching', 'Life Authoring', 'Live Your Love', 'Oedipal Culture', 'Pedoemotions', 'Pedoerotics', 'Primary Power', or 'The Legal Split in Child Protection'. |
