Wildly popular as a spreadsheet application, Microsoft Excel includes a robust collection of data management features, making it an excellent tool for working with lists of data. The ability to sort this data remains one of Excel's strongest and most-used features. But exactly how do you use Excel's sorting features to organize data the way you need to? Ribbon and toolbar buttons, menu commands, dialog boxes, and hidden options-in Excel, sorting can be simple and complicated at the same time, often yielding surprising, undesired results. This guide takes the mystery and confusion out of Excel's sorting features. It starts by covering the basics of simple, one-column sorts. It then builds on that information to explain multi-column sorting, setting up and using custom sort orders, sorting based on cell colors or icons, performing case-sensitive sorts, and sorting by rows instead of columns. Step-by-step, fully illustrated instructions make it clear what you need to do. Sample files available on the Maria's Guides website make it easy to repeat exercises so you can see the same results. Although this book concentrates on Microsoft Excel 2010 for Windows and Microsoft Excel 2011 for Mac OS, it also provides useful tips and instructions for previous versions of Excel. Don't waste time trying to decipher cryptic instructions in Excel's onscreen help. Get the information you need, written in a way you can understand by an experienced author who has been using, teaching, and writing about Excel for more than 20 years.

Over the past 10 years, object technology has gained widespread acceptance within the software industry. Within a wider context, however, it has made little impact on the core applications which support businesses in carrying out their tasks. This volume contains a collection of papers establishing the need for Business Objects, with particular reference to work undertaken by the Object Management Group (OMG). The emphasis is on defining an agenda for establishing Business Object standards and architectures, for developing software technology to support Business Objects applications and managing object oriented development projects. The wide variety of papers presented, and their authors' expertise, make this book a significant contribution to the development of Business Objects and their management.
In the last few years multimedia hardware and applications have become widely available on PC and workstations. Moreover, through the tremendous development and the wide usage of the World Wide Web multimedia applications have been brought over the network to many people. This book presents the results of the fourth in a well established series of international workshops on Multimedia organized by the EUROGRAPHICS Association, and held from May 28 to 30, 1996, in Rostock, Germany. The workshop had the special topic Multimedia on the Net and was the follow up of the EUROGRAPHICS Symposium and Workshop on Multimedia held in Graz in June 1994. The workshop program consisted of an invited keynote speech and five technical sessions. The fifteen contributions selected for this volume treat topics of particular interest in current research and address actual problems of the use of multimedia in distributed applications over the network. According to the technical sessions they can be roughly structured in the parts concepts for handling multimedia data, still and motion pictures on the net, WWW and multimedia, collaborative multimedia, and multimedia and education. Concepts for handling multimedia data are addressed in two contributions. The first treats a frame based presentation model for distributed information systems (Kirste), the other one presents a temporal logic formalism for specifying navigational transformation in hypermedia applications (Mere et al.).
Lotus Notes is one of the most successful and versatile groupware products on the market today and is used widely in both large and small organisations. Transforming Organisations Through Groupware - Lotus Notes in Action contains a selection of carefully chosen case studies which illustrate the implementational, organisational and commercial consequences of using Lotus Notes. These case studies have been chosen for their international appeal and, unlike other books on Lotus Notes, concentrate on the added value that can be gained by using Notes - rather than on the technical aspects of how to make the software work.
This volume presents the proceedings of the Second International
Symposium of Formal Methods Europe, held in Barcelona, Spain in
October 1994.
The last decade has seen an enormous change in the capability of information technology and also in the expectations of what that technology can provide. The personal computer revolution at the start of the 1980s brought computing power to the desktop in a way that, for the first time, non-technical users could understand and use in their everyday work. The invisible wall of mystique that had separated computers from their potential users for so long had been demolished, and the world of business would never be the same again. As we entered the 1990s, a decade later, we witnessed the beginnings of another revolution. This revolution is not so obvious, but its implications are even more far-reaching. It is not so obvious because it is happening behind the scenes, in the communications and computing infrastructure that support the machines that can be seen sitting on office desks and, increasingly, being carried with business people as standard equipment along with a briefcase and umbrella. It is potentially more far-reaching for the following reason. The per sonal computer of the 1980s brought computing power to the user in a box that could fit on a desk. The revolution of the 1990s brings to the user computing power that is distributed across the whole planet."
The last few years have borne witness to a remarkable diversity of formal methods, with applications to sequential and concurrent software, to real-time and reactive systems, and to hardware design. In that time, many theoretical problems have been tackled and solved, and many continue to be worked upon. Yet it is by the suitability of their industrial application and the extent of their usage that formal methods will ultimately be judged. This volume presents the proceedings of the first international symposium of Formal Methods Europe, FME'93. The symposium focuses on the application of industrial-strength formal methods. Authors address the difficulties of scaling their techniques up to industrial-sized problems, and their suitability in the workplace, and discuss techniques that are formal (that is, they have a mathematical basis) and that are industrially applicable. The volume has four parts: - Invited lectures, containing a lecture by Cliff B. Jones and a lecture by Antonio Cau and Willem-Paul de Roever; - Industrial usage reports, containing 6 reports; - Papers, containing 32 selected and refereedpapers; - Tool descriptions, containing 11 descriptions.
This volume contains 24 papers presented at the Sixth International Workshop on Database Machines. The papers cover a wide spectrum of topics including: system architectures, storage structures, associative memory architectures, memory resident systems, deduction and retrospectives on maturing projects. The nature of the papers is highly technical and presumes knowledge of database management systems and familiarity with database machines. The book is representative of the dual trend in the field towards (1) search for new functionability and (2) attention to detail, completeness and performance of prototype implementations.
The Third International Conference on Foundations of Data Organization and Algorithms has been organized by INRIA in Paris from June 21 to 23, 1989. Previous FODO Conferences were held in Warsaw, 1981, and in Kyoto, 1985. The goal of this year's conference is to present advances in techniques of permanent and temporary data organization in different fields. New applications such as image processing, graphics, geographic data processing, robotics, office automation, information systems, language translation, and expert systems have developed various data organizations and algorithms specific to the application requirements. The growing importance of these applications has created a need for general studies on data organization and algorithms as well as for specific studies on new database management systems and on filing services. The articles submitted for the conference were subject to the usual rigorous reviewing process and selected on that basis. They offer an excellent snapshot of the state of the art in the field and should prove invaluable for computer scientists faced by the problems of data organization which are raised by these new applications.
This volume is a collection of the most important contributions presented at the second MFDBS conference held in Visegr d, Hungary, June 26-30, 1989. The papers selected from more than one hundred submissions, originating from 23 countries in 4 continents, can be roughly divided into the following sections: theoretical fundamentals of relational databases, logical foundations and databases, data modelling, database design, deductive databases, transaction management and security, concurrency control and distributed databases. The volume reflects the current state of knowledge and is a guide to further development in database theory.
