The Heartland of Georgia, a vast region stretching from Columbus to
Savannah and from the edge of Atlanta to Florida, is home to
historic sites of Sherman's March to the Sea and Andersonville
Civil War Prison. Because of this history, the area is one of the
most haunted in the United States. All manner of paranormal
phenomena haunt the battlefields, houses, prison sites and forts
throughout this region. Spirits even stalk the streets of Savannah,
one of the most haunted cities in the world. Join author and
historian Jim Miles as he details the past and present of the
ghosts that haunt central Georgia and Savannah.
Originally published in 1978 Sea Serpents, Sailors and Sceptics
looks at stories of folklore and mythology which have fascinated
sailors from antiquity to the modern day. From stories of large
unauthenticated sea creatures to the Loch Ness Monster, documented
sightings are vast and the book provides a concise survey and
review of the subject of ocean folklore. It shows how some large
sea creatures, such as the giant squid, have been established and
addresses some of the explanations of sea serpents and other sea
creatures as now known, categorised species and offers a
classification of these species that have formulated the
mythologies of the sea throughout time. The book discusses how
relatively little is known about the sea still and offers a
practical look at the possibility that these mythological
creatures, might in fact be, as yet undiscovered species. This book
provides a unique interdisciplinary volume, crossing between the
area of literature and folklore, and natural historians alike, and
will appeal to academics working in the field of natural history
and folklore alike.
On the age-old streets of Charleston, the oft-forgotten enclaves of
the Holy City, the authors bring the reader face to face with a
group of orphans who haunt a College of Charleston dorm, a Citadel
cadet who haunts a local hotel and the specter of William Drayton
at Drayton Hall Plantation, to name just a few. Based on historical
events and specific details that are often lost in our general
notion of ghosts, each haunting encounter will send chills through
the reader's senses. From a bookstore phantom notorious for
rearranging the books in perfect vertical stacks, to a gruesome
nineteenth-century amputation taking place again in a medical
student's apartment, Macy and Buxton offer up stories and essays of
a nature more grim and morbid than ever heard of before. Complete
with over 30 black and white photographs.
Writing Phantoms in the Night or ETs? was not easy for author
Lorraine McAdam, and what she relates in this book might not be
believed by the vast majority of people -Â which is why she
delayed writing it for so long… Indeed, until now, only those in
her close, nuclear family had known of the details of her story,
which has been a lifelong one. But in her heart she eventually
realised that withholding her story -Â of what she has now
come to believe is some form of ongoing ET contact - was no longer
an option. And because it seems that the world at large has moved
to a more enlightened attitude towards ‘abductees’ or
‘experiencers’ who have experienced and gone through this high
strangeness, loosely called ‘alien contact’, McAdam now thinks
that the time is ripe to reveal her story. “This is my own
simple, truthful, riveting, intriguing, and sometimes frightening
account of multiple encounters, and experiences, with beings I
believe originate from other worlds and, possibly, other
dimensionsâ€, she writes. “And yet I am, to all who know me, an
ordinary English teacher, wife, and mother. So why me? I have no
answer.â€
* Shares Tom's profound teachings on life, death, and unconditional
love gained through his near-death experiences and direct encounter
with the Light * Includes more than 160 true and remarkable stories
about Tom completing his mission to spread God's Unconditional Love
* Details Tom's death experiences and how in 2007, when he felt he
had fulfilled his mission from God, he consciously left life on
Earth In the early evening of May 23, 1978, while making repairs
under his pick-up truck full of firewood, the heavy truck crashed
down on Tom Sawyer, crushing his chest flat. A 33-year-old
Olympic-trained bike racer and mechanic, Tom was clinically dead.
Fifteen minutes later, he came back to life, recounting his strange
experience of going through a tunnel, having his life review, and
meeting the Light. Spiritually energized by this experience and
endowed with supernatural abilities, Tom demonstrated repeatedly
that the reality we believe in is an illusion, that walls are not
necessarily barriers, severe health challenges can be healed in a
moment, and it is possible to walk on water. During his death
experience, Tom was charged by God with a three-part mission: teach
that death does not exist, prevent nuclear war, and promote the
Order of Melchizedek, in which he became a highly respected
teacher. Through more than 160 remarkable stories, Rev. Daniel
Chesbro and Rev. James B. Erickson share Tom's profound and
enlightening insights on life, death, and Unconditional Love. The
most complete and in-depth account of the life and teachings of Tom
Sawyer, this book reveals Tom as a modern-day messenger of God who
returned to life a powerful conduit of Unconditional Love,
compelled to create positive change for humanity.

The present book by Hu Baozhu explores the subject of ghosts and
spirits and attempts to map the religious landscape of ancient
China. The main focus of attention is the character gui , an
essential key to the understanding of spiritual beings. The author
analyses the character gui in various materials - lexicons and
dictionaries, excavated manuscripts and inscriptions, and received
classical texts. Gui is examined from the perspective of its
linguistic root, literary interpretation, ritual practices,
sociopolitical implication, and cosmological thinking. In the
gradual process of coming to know the otherworld in terms of ghosts
and spirits, Chinese people in ancient times attempted to identify
and classify these spiritual entities. In their philosophical
thinking, they connected the subject of gui with the movement of
the universe. Thus the belief in ghosts and spirits in ancient
China appeared to be a moral standard for all, not only providing a
room for individual religiosity but also implementing the purpose
of family-oriented social order, the legitimization of political
operations, and the understanding of the way of Heaven and Earth.

This is the first book-length study of the uncanny, an important
topic for contemporary thinking on literature, film, philosophy,
psychoanalysis, feminism and queer history. Much of this importance
can be traced back to Freud's extraordinary essay of 1919, 'The
Uncanny' (Das Unheimliche). As a ghostly feeling and concept,
however, the uncanny has a complex history going back to at least
the Enlightenment. Royle offers a detailed account of the emergence
of the uncanny, together with a series of close readings of
different aspects of the topic. Following a major introductory
historical and critical overview, there are chapters on literature,
teaching, psychoanalysis, deconstruction, film, the death drive,
deja vu, silence, solitude and darkness, the fear of being buried
alive, the double, ghosts, cannibalism, telepathy, madness and
religion. -- .

the tragic, the inexplicable and the just plain spooky. From the
desecration of the father of Wisconsin's burial spot to the winery
that was a stop on the Underground Railroad to the nightclub

the lights are out.
Investigates physical evidence, history, and myths to reveal the
lost race of giants that once dominated the world * Reveals
suppressed archaeological and scientific discoveries supporting the
existence of a worldwide race of giants * Examines giant myths and
legends from ancient religious texts and literature from around the
world * Includes findings from throughout Europe (Britain, France,
Spain, Italy, Germany, and Russia), the Middle East (Israel, Egypt,
Syria, Iraq, and Iran), Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Far
East (China, Japan, Malaysia, and the Philippines) From the
Nephilim and Goliath in the Bible to the Titans in Greek mythology
and the Fomorians and Frost Giants in Celtic and Nordic lore,
almost every culture around the world has spoken of an ancient race
of giants. Giant footprints left in the geological bedrock, tens of
thousands of years old, have been discovered in India, China, and
the war-torn lands of Syria. Giant bones and full skeletons have
been found in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and Asia.
Yet despite mounting evidence, mainstream science continues to
consign these findings to the fringe. Examining global myths,
historical records, megalithic ruins, and archaeological findings,
Xaviant Haze provides compelling evidence for a lost race of giants
in Earth's prehistory. Covering legends and finds from throughout
Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the
Far East, Haze also presents--in its entirety--The Book of Giants,
a portion of the Dead Sea Scrolls suppressed due to its
overwhelming support for the existence of giants in antiquity.
