Welcome to Bibury William Morris once described Bibury as "the
beautiful village in England." It is a very special village, with a
character of its own, but with a tradition and feel that's purely
Cotswolds. Many people return to Bibury, time and time again,
breathing in the beauty and the tranquility of the river meandering
through the Coln Valley, with the enchanting Cotswold stone
cottages and old Mills. If you come to Bibury early in the morning,
as the mist rolls gently back from the hills surrounding the
village, you will find a row of traditional Cotswold cottages, well
known throughout England, and indeed the world. This row of
weavers' cottages as shown on the front cover is known as Arlington
Row, and is perhaps one of the most photographed places in the
Cotswolds
After British-born, comedy actress Diz White found herself craving
Yorkshire Pudding at every meal she knew her roots were pulling her
back from America to her homeland. It was time to buy a Cotswolds
Cottage! Her roller-coaster search doubles as a travel-tour that
takes in every delight of the Cotswolds: historic sites, hog
roasts, hiking the Cotswold Way and pub walks with her husband,
often bagging the walk in favour of a slightly boozy lunch. There
were highs, heartbreaks and cliff-hangers as she was charged by a
bull named Chasin' Mason, auditioned for the hind end of a horse
and was trampled by thirty children while wearing a bear suit, but
the fondness she developed for this region and its vivid
inhabitants gave her a feeling of community missing from her busy
urban existence. Will this author's dream cottage become a reality?
Find out in this witty love note to the Cotswolds. This book does
double-duty as a travel tour of the Cotswolds and features a
valuable VISITOR'S GUIDE with GPS and Sat Nav info, a MAP and over
a dozen especially commissioned PHOTOGRAPHS.

A guidebook to 40 circular walks in in two of Lancashire's largest
Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Forest of Bowland, an
area of 310 square miles, and the 'bewitching' countryside of
Pendle to the south. The walks range between 3 and 12.5 miles in
length and are all illustrated with extracts of OS mapping. The
diverse range of routes include four Marilyns - Ward's Stone,
Pendle Hill, Longridge Fell and Fair Snape Fell. The walks are
spread across the region, with bases including Caton, Dunsop
Bridge, Slaidburn, Clitheroe and Pendle. All the walks are
punctuated with snippets of information on the natural and cultural
history of the region, from witches to wildlflowers. The Forest of
Bowland and Pendle provide vastly differing terrain - from the lush
farmlands of the Ribble valley to the more rugged rough pastures of
the Forest of Bowland uplands and the huge boggy uplifts of the
main Bowland massif itself.
In the late 1940s Patrick Leigh Fermor, now widely regarded as one
of the twentieth century's greatest travel writers, set out to
explore the then relatively little-visited islands of the
Caribbean. Rather than a comprehensive political or historical
study of the region, "The Traveller's Tree," Leigh Fermor's first
book, gives us his own vivid, idiosyncratic impressions of
Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominica, Barbados, Trinidad, and Haiti,
among other islands. Here we watch Leigh Fermor walk the dusty
roads of the countryside and the broad avenues of former colonial
capitals, equally at home among the peasant and the elite, the
laborer and the artist. He listens to steel drum bands, delights in
the Congo dancing that closes out Havana's Carnival, and observes
vodou and Rastafarian rites, all with the generous curiosity and
easy erudition that readers will recognize from his subsequent
classic accounts "A Time of Gifts" and "Between the Woods and the
Water."
Over fifty years ago, renowned British hillwalker and guidebook
author Alfred Wainwright described 214 peaks in the English Lake
District in his seven-volume illustrated Pictorial Guide to the
Lakeland Fells. Like the Munros in Scotland, bagging all the
Wainwrights has become a popular and significant challenge for
walkers and runners, often taking many years in fits and starts
because of the absence of a clear plan for how to link them
together. With this problem in mind, Peak Bagging: Wainwrights by
Karen and Dan Parker features forty-five routes designed to link up
these iconic fells so you can enjoy the challenge of completing
them at your own pace - over years, months or even just a few
weeks. It presents not only the most efficient routes for
completing the Wainwrights as quickly as possible, but does so in
such a way that each route is a fantastic walk or run in its own
right. The featured routes include a round of the Scafells, and the
Glenridding Horseshoe, taking in Helvellyn and Catstycam. The
routes are split into seven sections, reflecting Wainwright's seven
Pictorial Guides, and to simplify logistics, all of the featured
routes are circular with an emphasis on making practical links
between the summits. In addition, the book is packed with useful
information, including 1:40,000-scale maps, elevation profiles,
public transport and parking details, refreshments, downloadable
GPX files for each route and custom timings for walkers, trekkers,
fastpackers and runners. Also included are overview details of
Steve Birkinshaw's then-record-breaking sub-seven-day Wainwrights
run in 2014 - current record holder Sabrina Verjee completed the
round in under six days. Whatever your timescale for completing the
214 Wainwrights, Peak Bagging: Wainwrights is the indispensable
guide to this British hill challenge.
Illustrated throughout with maps and line drawings, 'The
Traveller's History of Ireland' will help you discover Ireland's
past and present.
Whereas most accounts of Bath's history focus on the Roman and
Georgian periods, skipping over much of the rest, this history
offers a chronological survey of the entire span of Bath's
existence, supplemented by accounts of several of its delights -
its food, its fashions, its theatrical and artistic heritage, its
music and its memorials.
Guidebook to 32 walks in the hills of Shropshire. The walks, which
are graded easy, moderate or hard, range from 3 miles (5km) to 12
miles (19km) and can be walked in all seasons. The selected routes
take in highlights such as The Wrekin, Wenlock Edge, Long Mynd and
Stiperstones, Castle Ring and Bury Ditches. Many routes start near
delightful towns and villages including Church Stretton, Ludlow and
Bishops Castle. Featuring 1:50K OS mapping (shown at 1:40K for
greater clarity), step-by-step route descriptions, as well as
information on accommodation, getting around, bases for the
Shropshire hills and history of the region, the guide details
everything you need to walk in Shropshire - and more. From
Neolithic standing stones, Bronze Age stone circles, and hilltop
forts dating back to the Iron Age, Shropshire offers more than just
picturesque landscapes and rewarding walking. Discover history on
the hills as well as natural beauty, all within easy driving
distance from Birmingham and Manchester.
The book comprises 36 short walking routes between 4 and 14 miles
in Northumberland, England's most sparsely populated county.
Ranging from easy ambles and gentle woodland trails to long days on
the hills, there is something for all types of walker - and all
types of weather. Taking in the beautiful coast with its immense,
empty beaches and dramatic crag-top castles to the remote hills of
the Cheviots and Pennines, the whole county is covered. Most of the
routes are circular, but there are a few linear walks that make use
of local bus services. The landscapes are rich in history,
featuring Hadrian's Wall, Lindisfarne Priory, Bamburgh and
Dunstanburgh castles, and much more. The walks are divided into
five geographical areas: north-east Northumberland, National Park
(north), Kielder, Tyne Valley and National Park (south) and the
North Pennines. Each walk description contains information on
start/finish points, distance covered, total ascent, terrain,
approximate walking time, grade, maps required, transport options,
public toilets and refreshments, and is accompanied by 1:50k OS
mapping. The book also includes a handy route summary table.

This guidebook presents 30 walks in the New Forest in Hampshire and
Wiltshire, Britain's smallest National Park. Easily accessible from
Southampton, Bournemouth, Salisbury and Winchester, the New Forest
encompasses varied landscapes, from ancient woodlands to open
heaths, rivers and coastline. Routes of between 5 and 16km (3 and
10 miles) explore the Forest, mainly on fairly flat terrain, often
on well-defined tracks and paths. Most walks are suitable for all
the family and many can be combined to make longer outings. Each
walk is described in detail, highlighting the many points of
interest in this area - ancient sites and castles, picture postcard
villages with thatched cottages or historic churches - with
fascinating background detail. An extract of 1:25,000 OS mapping
makes each route easy to follow, and suggestions for refreshment
stops like pubs and tea rooms are included. All walks offer a good
chance of seeing wildlife, including the famous New Forest ponies.
This area has been protected and nurtured by ancient laws for over
900 years, and is the largest remaining area of lowland heath in
Europe. It is this sense of history and the unique patchwork of
habitats that make walking in the New Forest National Park such a
rewarding experience.
The handiest and most stylish fold-out map of the Kruger National Park that one could hope to find.
Features an innovative and attractive fold pattern, and a complete map of the Kruger National Par.
