Sashiko 365 - Stitch a new sashiko embroidery pattern every day of the year (Paperback): Susan Briscoe Sashiko 365 - Stitch a new sashiko embroidery pattern every day of the year (Paperback)
Susan Briscoe
R425 Discovery Miles 4 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A collection of 365 different sashiko patterns to sew - one for every day of the year. Sashiko sewing expert, Susan Briscoe, demonstrates 365 different sashiko patterns, one for each day of the year - sew all 365 to make a beautiful sashiko quilt featuring all the designs Each sashiko pattern is stitched onto a four-and-a-half-inch square piece of fabric making it very accessible to sew one swatch every day. You can record the date of each sample you stitch in the book to create a record of your sewing. All of the stitch patterns are illustrated with a photograph of the stitched sample showing some stitches in different coloured thread (this is used by the author to identify which stitches to do first), next to a diagram showing the stitch direction and the order of the stitches on the grid. All the patterns are sewn on four-and-a-half-inch fabric swatches which can then be pieced together to create the ultimate double bed sized sashiko sampler quilt. But as well as sewing the samples separately to make them into a large bed-sized quilt, the patterns can also be repeated to create larger designs over a wider surface area to make wall hangings, throws, table mats and smaller quilts - with this collection of 365 designs the possibilities are endless. Sashiko embroidery is a decorative sewing technique from Japan which was traditionally used to reinforce clothing and other textiles. It is an ideal stitch for visible mending and has become incredibly popular over the last few years. The technique of sewing horizontal and vertical stitches makes extremely attractive geometric designs that can be adapted to suit a wide range of sewing projects. Susan Briscoe is an expert in Japanese sewing techniques and has travelled to Japan numerous times. She is the author of the best-selling Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook and runs regular workshops teaching sashiko sewing. This is the first time all of these 365 designs will appear in one book. Susan has included the Japanese name and pattern type in the text and has grouped specific design patterns together so you can see how they develop and use the collection to build your skills and knowledge of sashiko patterns.

Kaffe Fassett Quilts In Wales (Paperback): Fassett Kaffe Fassett Quilts In Wales (Paperback)

With his unerring eye, Kaffe has succeeded in finding the perfect location for his exquisite new collection of quilts, featuring both his scintillating new fabric designs and his classics, all in his unique colour palette. This time he has chosen the iconic 13th-century Powis Castle in north Wales, where the 20 quilts in this book are set off against the storybook castle and stunning grounds. Photographed brilliantly by Debbie Patterson, they are displayed in all their glory in a sumptuous eye-catching quilt gallery. Included in this set of new designs are many very special ones by Kaffe, and others by his long-time friend and co-designer, Liza Prior Lucy. Kaffe's Saturated Red quilt finds its perfect partner in the rich deep hues of the bed hangings on a magnificent four-poster, while his Cold Frames quilt, with its dramatic black-and-white sashing framing fussy-cut flower prints, echoes the studding on the medieval wooden doors into the courtyard. The cool geometry of his Marble Tiles quilt takes its inspiration from the painted paneling in the Long Gallery, and his Vintage Library quilt echoes the warm tones of the hundreds of leather-bound books in the Castle's collection. As usual, this book--the 24th in the series--includes a range of quilts for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced, and features an eclectic mix of patterns and colours ranging from Philip Jacobs' eye-catching bold floral prints to Brandon Mably's smaller-scale quirky patterns. Flat shots and a practical know-how section and glossary back up the fully illustrated, step-by-step instructions for each quilt.

Paint with Thread - A step-by-step guide to embroidery through the seasons (Hardcover): Emillie Ferris Paint with Thread - A step-by-step guide to embroidery through the seasons (Hardcover)
Emillie Ferris
R634 Discovery Miles 6 340 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Slow down and embroider your way through the changing seasons with the beautiful debut book from embroidery artist and rising star Emillie Ferris. Needlepainting, also known as thread painting or silk shading, is a form of embroidery that creates a realistic, lifelike effect using a single strand of thread and one simple stitch - the 'long and short' stitch. You can create gorgeous colour gradients, magical details and flowing stitch directions that are perfect if you want to embroider flora and fauna. In this richly illustrated step-by-step guide, self-taught embroidery artist Emillie Ferris shows you how to pick up a needle and thread in the same way as a paintbrush to create strokes of colour and bring images to life on fabric. Inspired by nature and the changing seasons, Emillie has created five new and exclusive patterns for the book, four that reflect each season in turn and one special design that brings the natural year together into one showstopper embroidery. This book is the culmination of all of Emillie's skills and years of experience in this wonderful, meditative art form. Each design has around 60 detailed step-by-step photos, showing every stage of the process, so that even complete beginners can follow along and create beautiful embroideries. If you have been considering learning the art of needlepainting but are unsure where to start, then this book is for you! Not only are the embroideries sublime, but the book itself is a thing of beauty, with incredible attention to detail - from the exquisite photography to the lavish hardback binding, making it a real treasure for the book lover. Plus, high quality iron-on transfers at the back of the book allow you to transfer the designs directly onto fabric to get started straight away. In this book Emillie generously shares her tried and tested tips and techniques, including advice on materials, transferring designs onto fabric, and fully illustrated explanations of the stitches and skills needed. The five in-depth projects draw on Emillie's love of nature, including motifs that she is best known for such as flowers, foliage, bees and fungi. This beautiful book will become an indispensable and treasured guide allowing you to paint with thread the Emillie Ferris way.
