Mountaineering in the Swiss Alps presents a selection of classic routes in the main Swiss climbing areas that have forged Switzerland's reputation as a mountaineering paradise. Featured are over thirty climbs, ranging from relatively easy normal routes to more challenging itineraries. All are within the capabilities of most mountaineers and provide an excellent introduction to the wide variety of climbing that Switzerland has to offer. Every route, whether it is a pure rock climb, a mixed ridge, a big north face or a long traverse, was chosen for the beauty of the surroundings and the quality of the climbing. Some are on world famous peaks that every mountaineer aspires to climb, such as the Matterhorn (Mont Cervin), the Breithorn and the Monch; others are on lesser-known summits and will delight those who like getting away from the beaten track. Written by mountaineer and author Stephane Maire, each route features technical notes, a route description and topo, and photos illustrating the climb's unique character.
The two maps, Prespa - Mt Varnous - Mt Vitsi, on one side and Mt Voras, on the other, include border areas of Western Macedonia that were until recently off the beaten track. Nowadays these areas have become popular tourism destinations that offer literally everything, from recreation activities and nature attractions to adventure sports, including skiing (there are 3 ski resorts in the area), air sports, off-road touring, motocross, cycling, hiking (the European trails E4 and E6 cross the map area), mountain running, spas, even swimming(!) at the beaches of Vegoritis and Megali Prespa lakes and naturally birdwatching. Tourism infrastructure is well developed and there are even high standard resorts such as Nymphaio and Palaios Agios Athanasios villages.

Tinos island landscape is like a hand made embroidery. Rural huts, dovecotes, churches, terraces and villages are woven into a net of trails. In the first edition of the map, along with my partner Charles Merlin we have recorded several dozens of kilometers of footpaths. From then until the present second edition, Charles made a bet and target to enrich the map in paths, - and put in the game and his friend George Kennedy. Actually the recorded paths, doubled, and plenty of churches, bridges, huts, dovecotes were added beside the paths. Along with the improvements in topographic background and color palette, the map of Tinos has reached very high standards - because we don't like the easy path. On the back side there are several proposed hiking trails with short descriptions and updated information for marking of the paths.
