This book closely examines the ways in which many popular,
internationally-published Japanese young adult manga graphic novel
titles frame instances of K-12 school-situated violence and
bullying. Manga is a Japanese literary medium that has grown
worldwide as an increasingly visible fixture of young adults'
recreational reading habits. The author uncovers the medium's most
prevalent patterns of defining, depicting, and discussing
school-situated violence and bullying. Through the lens of
socio-cultural media frame analysis, he explores what these
patterns might indicate about young adults' preexisting views and
beliefs about occurrences of violence and bullying within their own
school environments. This in-depth investigation of manga
literature provides important information pertaining to the
pedagogies and practices of K-12 teachers and school
administrators, as well as detailed advice for parents of young
adult manga fans.
Spanish Graphic Narratives examines the most recent thematic and
critical developments in Spanish sequential art, with essays
focusing on comics published in Spain since 2007. Considering
Spain's rich literary history, contentious Civil War (1936-39),
oppressive Francisco Franco regime (1939-75), and progressive
contemporary politics, both the recent graphic novel production in
Spain and the thematic focal points of the essays here are greatly
varied. Topics of particular interest include studies on the
subject of historical and personal memory; representations of
gender, race, and identity; and texts dealing with Spanish customs,
traditions, and the current political situation in Spain. These
overarching topics share many points of contact one with another,
and this interrelationship (as well as the many points of
divergence) is illustrative of the uniqueness, diversity, and
paradoxes of literary and cultural production in modern-day Spain,
thus illuminating our understanding of Spanish national
consciousness in the present day.

An unjustly condemned man cheats death in the gas chamber by using
occult power to transform into toxic gas. A psychologically
troubled FBI agent is ordered to apprehend him but turns rogue and
threatens to destroy his last tie to humanity in a sadistic game of
cat and mouse.
It is a new dawn for the C-in-C, whose ascension to power is the
result of the assassination of the reformist military head of
state, General Mutallah Mohammed, who once promised to transfer
power to a democratic government and failed. As a handful of
military leaders meet in a private guest house, it soon becomes
evident there are cracks in the military foundation and that a
palace coup is boiling just beneath the surface. The leaders know
they must choose who will be the next President of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria. But the question remains-who? As soon as
General Obasanjo becomes the new president, the nation is plunged
into chaos. As a revolution brings masses to the streets who
destroy and paralyze all government institutions, Obas realizes he
must terminate the ruthlessness of the mafia by appointing the
no-nonsense, second-in-command military ruler, Brigadier 'Taju
Agbon, to power. But all of Obas's efforts are in vain as more
intolerants emerge, the upper class is attacked, and corrupt
politicians are robbed of their wealth and properties. In this
action-packed tale full of surprising twists and turns, the reign
of the last dictator precariously hangs in the balance as he
attempts to rule over a nation in jeopardy.
