Laurence Juber shares his life with Wings and his solo career 'on
six strings' in new book. Guitar With Wings: LJ's Musical Journey
on Six Strings, a photo memoir by Grammy Award-winning artist
Laurence Juber. It is the story of Juber's five-decade career told
through his own words, candid never-seen-before colour and black
& white photos, vintage advertising materials, guitars,
equipment, memorabilia and the six-string legend's encyclopaedic
musical memory. "In the thirty-something years since Wings folded I
would look at the boxes of photographs and accumulated memorabilia,
promising myself that one day I'd take the time to organize it
all," "Contrary to my expectations that the Wings era would be
absorbed into the general arc of Paul McCartney's career, interest
in the band itself has continued to flourish and I recognized that
I had a unique perspective to offer." Juber said the 50-year
anniversary of his love affair with the guitar and the public's
on-going fascination for Wings proved a catalyst for this
retrospective. "The photos triggered long-forgotten memories of my
time in the band, underscoring how my studies at 'McCartney
University' were a bridge from my early musical experiences to my
later 'solo flight' and how much the couple-consciousness of Paul
and Linda McCartney proved to be a template for my own romantic and
creative relationship with my wife Hope,"
An in-depth look at the invention and development of the electric
guitar, this book explores how the electric guitar's design has
changed and what its design over the years has meant for its sound.
A heavily illustrated history with amps turned up to eleven,
Amplified celebrates this beloved instrument and reveals how it has
evolved through the experiments of amateur makers and part-time
tinkerers. Digging deep into archives and featuring new interviews
with makers and players, it will find admirers in all shredders,
luthiers, and fans of electric sound.
How fast can you play? What guitar do you have? Who is better, Van
Halen or Steve Vai? For metal fans in the 80s, these were common
and important questions. Tune in to MTV, pick up a magazine, or
walk into an instrument store, and more often than not you d be
exposed to what is now known as shredding the fast, virtuoso
soloing popularized by musicians like Vai and Van Halen, Joe
Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen, Randy Rhoads and Dimebag Darrell.
Inspired by these pioneering guitarists, thousands of young
musicians would spend hours at home in their bedrooms, perfecting
both their playing and their poses. Though shredding fell out of
favour during the grunge/alternative rock era, it has become
increasingly popular again in recent years, spurred by the rise in
popularity of bands like Children Of Bodom, DragonForce, and
Trivium. Drawing on more than 70 exclusive interviews with key
shredders past and present, author and guitarist Greg Prato has
assembled the definitive guide to the fastest players of them all.
Mandatory for surf guitar fans, this songbook includes 25 of the
biggest hits by the Ventures: Apache * Hang on Sloopy * Let's Go *
Pipeline * Road Runner * Tequila * Walk, Don't Run * Wipe Out *
Wooly Bully * and more. Also includes photos, interviews with the
band members, a discography, and performance notes.
The massive and complex process of change in East Asia over recent
decades has brought about a transformation in the nature of law and
legal institutions in the region. Whilst the process of change has
to some degree mimicked western models of law and legal change,
there have been significant differences in approach due to the
different social foundations of East Asian societies. The more
obvious of these has been the variety of ways in which rule of law
ideas have been adopted in many East Asian countries where the role
of the state is more dominant when compared with Western models.
This volume brings together a selection of the most important
writings on East Asia of researchers in recent years, and shows the
broad range of questions which researchers have been addressing
about the effect of law reform and legal change in societies
dominated by traditional values and political forces, and at a time
of massive economic change.

A fascinating social history of the guitar, reasserting its
long-forgotten importance in Romantic England This book is the
first to explore the popularity and novelty of the guitar in
Georgian England, noting its impact on the social, cultural, and
musical history of the period. The instrument possessed an imagery
as rich as its uses were varied; it emerged as a potent symbol of
Romanticism and was incorporated into poetry, portraiture, and
drama. In addition, British and Irish soldiers returning from war
in Spain and Portugal brought with them knowledge of the Spanish
guitar and its connotations of stylish masculinity. Christopher
Page presents entirely new scholarship in order to place the guitar
within a multifaceted context, drawing from recently digitized
original source material. The Guitar in Georgian England champions
an instrument whose importance in the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries is often overlooked.
