Clinique products are formulated avoiding known allergens. Each product is tested by a group of 600 people where the formulation is applied 12 times in search for a zero reactions result. Each successful formula is regularly re-assessed for possible improvements which can result in a formulation change. Rather than selling a universal program to all customers, Clinique seeks to customize their solution to each individual—skin type is determined and a specific regime is recommended for each customer.

In 1971 Clinque’s first women’s perfume, Aromatics Elixier was introduced. A chypre floral based scent it has been the brand’s signature scent for over 40 years yet it is the women’s perfume Happy, launched in 1998, that is their best seller. With a nice balance of citrus and flora this perfume appeals more to the younger set. Happy for Men with its crisp citrus and musky undertones was introduced a year later in 1999. Other popular Clinque perfumes include the sheer smelling Simply and the romantic Happy Heart.

Cosmetics giant Estée Lauder began in 1946 with a line of four products manufactured by Lauder’s uncle and under the marketing genius of Joseph and Estée Lauder. As funds were limited early on, they grew their business through innovation and determination: Samples were given to customers before purchasing, they were tasteful and personal in their sales tactics, and they only sought the most prestigious of clients and accounts. This set a standard for modern cosmetics sales and a precedent for Estée Lauder, as their brand is only carried in the finest stores today. In time, Estée Lauder expanded their range of new Estee Lauder perfume products as well as their selling market. They started their first international account in 1960 with Harrods in London and opened an office in Hong Kong the following year. Aramis, a line dedicated to fragrances and products for men, was started in 1964, and Clinique Laboratories Inc., the first dermatologist-guided, allergy-tested, fragrance-free cosmetic brand, was launched in 1968. Since then, Estee Lauder has continued to provide exceptionally exquisite products that are favorites for both men and women all around the world.

Estée Lauder introduced their first women’s fragrance, Youth Dew Estee Lauder perfume, in 1950. A captivating scent with a lingering fragrance, the first Estee Lauder perfume sold 50,000 bottles within the very first year alone. With quality research always preceding a product launch, a long list of fine women’s Estee Lauder fragrances followed the initial success of Youth Dew, such as the Beautiful, Beyond Paradise, Pleasures, and Pure White fragrance series. Other popular fragrance lines by Estee Lauder include White Linen, Estée, and Intuition, all of which became instant favorites for women across the globe upon their release. Lines of Estee Lauder fragrance for men were also introduced by Estée Lauder. These men’s Estee Lauder fragrances were accompaniments to their more popular Estee Lauder perfumes, such as Beyond Paradise for Men, Pleasures for Men, and Intuition for Men.

As a man who made the enjoyment of life a philosophy, Zino Davidoff believed in enriching the world with beauty and elegance. The son of an immigrant tobacco merchant in Geneva Switzerland, Davidoff journeyed to Latin America at 18 in 1924 to learn the tobacco trade. Returning to Geneva and taking over the family business in the early 1930s, Davidoff saw his family’s shop thrive in the haven Switzerland had become for the wealthy in World War II. The marketing of Cuban cigars, his desktop cigar humidor and his writings on cigar smoking and Cuban brands made Davidoff very well known and successful. He sold his business to the Max Oettinger Company in 1970 but stayed on as the ambassador for the Davidoff brand until his death in 1994. A holding company founded in 1885, Max Oettiger recognized the reputation of both Davidoff the man and his wares and realized they had the perfect products and vehicle to take this brand to the next level. Eventually, 80% of Oettiger’s revenue would be derived from tobacco and smokers’ accessories marketed primarily under the Davidoff name while 20% came from other products such as writing instruments, cognacs, leather goods and fragrances.

The first Davidoff fragrance, Davidoff, was launched in 1984 and embodies the brand’s philosophy of “the good life”. Pure complete scents is the ideology behind these perfumes and colognes as no self respecting person should be without a Davidoff fragrance. Cool Water cologne, which debuted in 1988, remains amongst the best selling and highest rated men’s fragrances. Cool Water perfume was introduced in 1996.

Aramis is a division of Estee Lauder which was launched in 1964 to focus specifically on fragrances and grooming products for men. Named after a character in the Alexandre Dumas classic, “The Three Musketeers”, the original Aramis men’s cologne was launched simultaneously with the brand and was intended to be a high end fragrance marketed to the mature and wealthy set. Aramis 900, Aramis Devin and JHL were also of the same class and it was not until the mid 1980s with increasing pressure from the younger and sexier appealing brands such as Calvin Klein and L’Oreal did they launch a line with the younger audience specifically in mind. Though their New West line was successful, it failed to help Aramis reclaim their position at the top as the brand was still viewed very much as the choice of older gentlemen.

Over the next few years Aramis continued to produce new colognes such as Tuscany and Havana and in 1995 found success in a licensed fragrance, Tommy, for Tommy Hilfiger which became the best selling men’s fragrance of that year. Tommy Girl and Freedom were also hits for Aramis and Hilfiger and then later Happy for Men, a fragrance produced for their sister company, Clinique.

The Lacoste brand was started somewhat unintentionally by French tennis star Jean René Lacoste in 1927 when a piece of luggage made from crocodile skin was promised to him upon his winning of a particular match. Shortly thereafter, he emblazoned a small crocodile on his court apparel in reference to this win and to signify his style of play. In 1933, in conjunction with the largest French knitwear manufacturer, Lacoste began to produce his logo-embroidered shirt for the sports of tennis, golf, and sailing.

“The status symbol of the competent sportsman,” Lacoste shirts found their way to the United States in 1952 and into the closets of the well-to-do sporting class. Bernard Lacoste took over the management of his father’s company in 1963, and it was under him that the Lacoste brand experienced significant growth. Lacoste reached its height of popularity in the United States in the late 1970s and 1980s in the era of “preppy wear,” wherein the company began to introduce other products, including eyewear, shoes, watches, leather goods, and Lacoste perfume.

The first Lacoste fragrance was a cologne for men simply called Lacoste for Men. Eleven years later, in 1999, the first Lacoste perfume for women was released. Today, there are many elegant options for women in the line of Lacoste perfume. For men, the brand boasts more than 20 colognes to chose from. While varying in scent from Dream of Pink perfume, with fresh fruity aromas of berries and lotus flowers aimed at energetic and passionate young women, to Elegance, a Lacoste cologne with black pepper and nutmeg accords, all of the fragrances are exceedingly well-balanced and refined, in line with all things Lacoste.

Women have fragrance options like the sophisticated Inspiration perfume, the clean, classic Eau De Lacoste perfume, and the entire “Touch of” series, allowing for the many moods of a woman to each have their own bouquet of scent.

Jewellery and fragrances were two of the material passions in the life of screen legend, Elizabeth Taylor. At the age of three Elizabeth Taylor began ballet lessons and by the age of nine, was in her first motion picture. Her talent drew favourable reviews, her mature continence an asset, and her stunning looks completed the package. In time Taylor’s screen career would prove to be a successful one garnering some of the film industry’s top awards and honours. Her lifelong passion for jewellery was evident in her collection which was one of the largest in the world. Over the years Taylor owned a number of well known pieces such as the 33.19 carat Krupp Diamond which Taylor wore daily, and the 69.42 carat Taylor-Burton Diamond—both of which were gifts from husband number five and six, Richard Burton.

The launch of her first perfume in 1987, Passion, was the beginning of a fragrance empire that would be one of the most successful in history. Passion for Men was launched in 1989 and other perfumes followed such as the exotic Diamonds & Emeralds, the sparkling Diamonds & Sapphires and the dramatic Diamonds & Rubies. Most celebrity backed fragrances, quickly fall from view once it is left to compete with the Chanel N°5s of the world, however, when a scent is formulated well, cleverly marketed and retails for the right price, the sky is the limit. Elizabeth Taylor’s perfumes are one of the first and few to have any staying power at the perfume counter.
