Discrete-Time and Discrete-Space Dynamical Systems (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Kuize Zhang, Li Jun Zhang, Lihua Xie Discrete-Time and Discrete-Space Dynamical Systems (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Kuize Zhang, Li Jun Zhang, Lihua Xie
R2,856 Discovery Miles 28 560 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Discrete-Time and Discrete-Space Dynamical Systems provides a systematic characterization of the similarities and differences of several types of discrete-time and discrete-space dynamical systems, including: Boolean control networks; nondeterministic finite-transition systems; finite automata; labelled Petri nets; and cellular automata. The book's perspective is primarily based on topological properties though it also employs semitensor-product and graph-theoretic methods where appropriate. It presents a series of fundamental results: invertibility, observability, detectability, reversiblity, etc., with applications to systems biology. Academic researchers with backgrounds in applied mathematics, engineering or computer science and practising engineers working with discrete-time and discrete-space systems will find this book a helpful source of new understanding for this increasingly important class of systems. The basic results to be found within are of fundamental importance for further study of related problems such as automated synthesis and safety control in cyber-physical systems using formal methods.

Yield-Aware Analog IC Design and Optimization in Nanometer-scale Technologies (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Antonio Manuel... Yield-Aware Analog IC Design and Optimization in Nanometer-scale Technologies (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Antonio Manuel Lourenco Canelas, Jorge Manuel Correia Guilherme, Nuno Cavaco Gomes Horta
R2,873 Discovery Miles 28 730 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book presents a new methodology with reduced time impact to address the problem of analog integrated circuit (IC) yield estimation by means of Monte Carlo (MC) analysis, inside an optimization loop of a population-based algorithm. The low time impact on the overall optimization processes enables IC designers to perform yield optimization with the most accurate yield estimation method, MC simulations using foundry statistical device models considering local and global variations. The methodology described by the authors delivers on average a reduction of 89% in the total number of MC simulations, when compared to the exhaustive MC analysis over the full population. In addition to describing a newly developed yield estimation technique, the authors also provide detailed background on automatic analog IC sizing and optimization.

Theory and Applications of Dependable Computer Systems - Proceedings of the Fifteenth International Conference on Dependability... Theory and Applications of Dependable Computer Systems - Proceedings of the Fifteenth International Conference on Dependability of Computer Systems DepCoS-RELCOMEX, June 29 - July 3, 2020, Brunow, Poland (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Wojciech Zamojski, Jacek Mazurkiewicz, Jaroslaw Sugier, Tomasz Walkowiak, Janusz Kacprzyk
R4,476 Discovery Miles 44 760 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book presents selected papers from the Fifteenth International Conference on Dependability of Computer Systems (DepCoS-RELCOMEX), which illustrate the diversity of theoretical problems in analysis of performability, reliability and security of contemporary computer systems. Covering also methodologies and practical tools involved in this field, it is a valuable reference resource for scientists, researchers, practitioners and students who are dealing with these subjects. Established in 2006, DepCoS-RELCOMEX is an annual conference series organised by Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. It focuses on the dependability and performability of contemporary computer systems - topics that can provide solutions to new challenges in evaluation of their reliability and efficiency. Since they are probably the most complex technical systems ever engineered by humans, the organization of modern computer systems cannot be modelled and analysed solely as structures (however complex and distributed) built only on the basis of technical resources. Instead they should be considered as a unique blend of interacting people (their needs and behaviours), networks (together with mobile properties, iCloud organisation, Internet of Everything) and a large number of users dispersed geographically and producing an unimaginable number of applications. This new, interdisciplinary approach is developing a continually increasing range of methods which apply also the latest findings in artificial intelligence (AI) and computational intelligence (CI).

Alexandre Mauroy, Igor Mezic, Yoshihiko Susuki
R4,677 Discovery Miles 46 770 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book provides a broad overview of state-of-the-art research at the intersection of the Koopman operator theory and control theory. It also reviews novel theoretical results obtained and efficient numerical methods developed within the framework of Koopman operator theory. The contributions discuss the latest findings and techniques in several areas of control theory, including model predictive control, optimal control, observer design, systems identification and structural analysis of controlled systems, addressing both theoretical and numerical aspects and presenting open research directions, as well as detailed numerical schemes and data-driven methods. Each contribution addresses a specific problem. After a brief introduction of the Koopman operator framework, including basic notions and definitions, the book explores numerical methods, such as the dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) algorithm and Arnoldi-based methods, which are used to represent the operator in a finite-dimensional basis and to compute its spectral properties from data. The main body of the book is divided into three parts: theoretical results and numerical techniques for observer design, synthesis analysis, stability analysis, parameter estimation, and identification; data-driven techniques based on DMD, which extract the spectral properties of the Koopman operator from data for the structural analysis of controlled systems; and Koopman operator techniques with specific applications in systems and control, which range from heat transfer analysis to robot control. A useful reference resource on the Koopman operator theory for control theorists and practitioners, the book is also of interest to graduate students, researchers, and engineers looking for an introduction to a novel and comprehensive approach to systems and control, from pure theory to data-driven methods.

Embedded Systems Design using the MSP430FR2355 LaunchPad (TM) (Hardcover, 2nd ed. 2023): Brock J. Lameres Embedded Systems Design using the MSP430FR2355 LaunchPad (TM) (Hardcover, 2nd ed. 2023)
Brock J. Lameres
R1,767 Discovery Miles 17 670 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

This textbook for courses in Embedded Systems introduces students to necessary concepts, through a hands-on approach. LEARN BY EXAMPLE - This book is designed to teach the material the way it is learned, through example. Every concept is supported by numerous programming examples that provide the reader with a step-by-step explanation for how and why the computer is doing what it is doing. LEARN BY DOING - This book targets the Texas Instruments MSP430 microcontroller. This platform is a widely popular, low-cost embedded system that is used to illustrate each concept in the book. The book is designed for a reader that is at their computer with an MSP430FR2355 LaunchPadTM Development Kit plugged in so that each example can be coded and run as they learn. LEARN BOTH ASSEMBLY AND C - The book teaches the basic operation of an embedded computer using assembly language so that the computer operation can be explored at a low-level. Once more complicated systems are introduced (i.e., timers, analog-to-digital converters, and serial interfaces), the book moves into the C programming language. Moving to C allows the learner to abstract the operation of the lower-level hardware and focus on understanding how to "make things work". BASED ON SOUND PEDAGOGY - This book is designed with learning outcomes and assessment at its core. Each section addresses a specific learning outcome that the student should be able to "do" after its completion. The concept checks and exercise problems provide a rich set of assessment tools to measure student performance on each outcome.

Chaos, Synchronization and Structures in Dynamics of Systems with Cylindrical Phase Space (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Nikolai... Chaos, Synchronization and Structures in Dynamics of Systems with Cylindrical Phase Space (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Nikolai Verichev, Stanislav Verichev, Vladimir Erofeev
R2,873 Discovery Miles 28 730 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book develops analytical methods for studying the dynamical chaos, synchronization, and dynamics of structures in various models of coupled rotators. Rotators and their systems are defined in a cylindrical phase space, and, unlike oscillators, which are defined in Rn, they have a wider "range" of motion: There are vibrational and rotational types for cyclic variables, as well as their combinations (rotational-vibrational) if the number of cyclic variables is more than one. The specificity of rotator phase space poses serious challenges in terms of selecting methods for studying the dynamics of related systems. The book chiefly focuses on developing a modified form of the method of averaging, which can be used to study the dynamics of rotators. In general, the book uses the "language" of the qualitative theory of differential equations, point mappings, and the theory of bifurcations, which helps authors to obtain new results on dynamical chaos in systems with few degrees of freedom. In addition, a special section is devoted to the study and classification of dynamic structures that can occur in systems with a large number of interconnected objects, i.e. in lattices of rotators and/or oscillators. Given its scope and format, the book can be used both in lectures and courses on nonlinear dynamics, and in specialized courses on the development and operation of relevant systems that can be represented by a large number of various practical systems: interconnected grids of various mechanical systems, various types of networks including not only mechanical but also biological systems, etc.

The Age of Surveillance Capitalism - The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power (Hardcover): Shoshana Zuboff The Age of Surveillance Capitalism - The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power (Hardcover)
Shoshana Zuboff 1
R1,106 R902 Discovery Miles 9 020 Save R204 (18%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The challenges to humanity posed by the digital future, the first detailed examination of the unprecedented form of power called "surveillance capitalism," and the quest by powerful corporations to predict and control our behavior. In this masterwork of original thinking and research, Shoshana Zuboff provides startling insights into the phenomenon that she has named surveillance capitalism. The stakes could not be higher: a global architecture of behavior modification threatens human nature in the twenty-first century just as industrial capitalism disfigured the natural world in the twentieth. Zuboff vividly brings to life the consequences as surveillance capitalism advances from Silicon Valley into every economic sector. Vast wealth and power are accumulated in ominous new "behavioral futures markets," where predictions about our behavior are bought and sold, and the production of goods and services is subordinated to a new "means of behavioral modification." The threat has shifted from a totalitarian Big Brother state to a ubiquitous digital architecture: a "Big Other" operating in the interests of surveillance capital. Here is the crucible of an unprecedented form of power marked by extreme concentrations of knowledge and free from democratic oversight. Zuboff's comprehensive and moving analysis lays bare the threats to twenty-first century society: a controlled "hive" of total connection that seduces with promises of total certainty for maximum profit -- at the expense of democracy, freedom, and our human future. With little resistance from law or society, surveillance capitalism is on the verge of dominating the social order and shaping the digital future -- if we let it.

Yasumichi Hasegawa
R3,026 Discovery Miles 30 260 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This monograph deals with approximation and noise cancellation of dyn- ical systems which include linear and nonlinear input/output relationships. It also deal with approximation and noise cancellation of two dimensional arrays. It will be of special interest to researchers, engineers and graduate students who have specialized in ?ltering theory and system theory and d- ital images. This monograph is composed of two parts. Part I and Part II will deal with approximation and noise cancellation of dynamical systems or digital images respectively. From noiseless or noisy data, reduction will be made. A method which reduces model information or noise was proposed in the reference vol. 376 in LNCIS [Hasegawa, 2008]. Using this method will allow model description to be treated as noise reduction or model reduction without having to bother, for example, with solving many partial di?er- tial equations. This monograph will propose a new and easy method which produces the same results as the method treated in the reference. As proof of its advantageous e?ect, this monograph provides a new law in the sense of numerical experiments. The new and easy method is executed using the algebraic calculations without solving partial di?erential equations. For our purpose, manyactualexamplesofmodelinformationandnoisereductionwill also be provided. Using the analysis of state space approach, the model reduction problem may have become a major theme of technology after 1966 for emphasizing e?ciency in the ?elds of control, economy, numerical analysis, and others.

Advanced, Automated and Electric Vehicle Law (Paperback): Alex Glassbrook Advanced, Automated and Electric Vehicle Law (Paperback)
Alex Glassbrook
R4,261 Discovery Miles 42 610 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The era of advanced, automated and electric vehicles (AAEVs) has begun; the legal transformation is starting. In July 2018, parliament enacted the Automated and Electric Vehicles Act 2018, legislating for electric vehicle charging and allowing a direct civil claim against the motor insurer of an automated, ‘self-driving’ vehicle. In May 2022, the UK government announced its intention to create a new legal category for e-scooters. In April 2023, a ‘hands free’ advanced driver assistance system was approved for use on certain motorways across England, Wales and Scotland. Motor vehicle technologies have developed since the nineteenth century and have affected numerous aspects of our lives - from road safety to the environment, from the laws of civil liability to the rules of compulsory insurance. As AAEV technologies proliferate, their effects are likely to spread further, into legal areas less associated with motor vehicles such as equality and privacy. This book describes the emerging laws of advanced, automated and electric vehicles in England and Wales, explaining: - The development of motor vehicle laws (including vehicle specification law, the law of motor insurance and the laws of passenger transport) and putting new AAEV laws into their historical and legal contexts - The laws of civil and criminal liability relating to motor vehicles and how those laws are adapting to AAEVs - The public laws relating to motor vehicles which are likely to be affected by AAEVs, including environmental law and the laws of equality, of data protection and privacy This book will help those litigating, adjudicating, regulating and studying AAEV issues. It gives the context and detail of AAEV law in its many applications. It is a map to a fast-changing legal landscape. This title is included in Bloomsbury Professional’s Cyber Law online service.
