Arne & Carlos derived the inspiration for this book from numerous Setesdal patterns. Many were found in the attics of old houses, in books, on postcards, and from old knitting patterns. In their newest book, Knitting Scandinavian Style, you will find 33 patterns for gorgeous sweaters in bright colours, to suit both men and women. Ideas for accessories such as mittens, hats, wrist warmers, stockings, small and large pillows, teddy bears and much more. The levels of difficulty vary from completely easy patterns to those for more experienced knitters. Through experience gained from working alongside Scandinavia's most respected knitters, many of whom still use centuries-old techniques, Arne & Carlos seek to preserve tradition while creating pieces that are fresh and modern. The 33 patterns in this book have been inspired by Setesdal's cultural heritage but were designed with a little twist.

Lily King remembers the year her family lived in Italy and a knitted hat that helped her daughter adjust to her new home. Laura Lippman explores how converting to Judaism changed not only Christmas but also her mother's gift of a knitted stocking. And Bill Roorbach remembers his first year at college when knitting soothed his broken heart and helped him fall in love again. Other contributors include Steve Almond, Jane Hamilton, Ann Leary, Nick Flynn, Lee Woodruff and knitting rock stars Jared Flood of Brooklyn Tweed and the Yarn Whisperer, Clara Parks.
Never before has it been so important to be aware of our environmental footprint and impact. As a knitter and yarn lover you will already be aware of the benefits of 'making' rather than 'buying' and the benefits of knitting with natural rather than synthetic fibres. But are you sure your yarn choices are as environmentally friendly as they could be? This collection of 20 projects from knitting blogger and environmentalist, Epipa, shows you how to knit more sustainably. With this practical guide you can learn how to make your knitting more environmentally friendly by choosing the most eco friendly yarns such as bamboo, organic cotton, linen and flax, as well as tips on how to reduce your yarn footprint. Drawing on her childhood experience where she was encouraged by her grandmothers to reuse rather than throw things away, repair damaged clothes and homewares, and recycle unwanted linen to be used as cleaning rags and cloths, Epipa shares all her ideas for living a more sustainable lifestyle while still enjoying the craft of knitting. As well as advice on yarn sourcing and the environmental impact of various different types of yarn, Epipa shares her knitting patterns for a more zero waste lifestyle without the need for 'disposable' cloths and paper towels. There are instructions for how to turn old t shirts, bed linen and tablecloths into your own cotton yarn and how to restore unravelled yarn from unfinished projects to its former glory rather than laying abandoned in a cupboard. The projects include beautiful, useful and practical things for everyday life such as shopping baskets for the larder, the kitchen and the bathroom as well as rugs and runners and accessories for the bathroom. Choose from knitted tea towels, dish clothes, and shopping bags so you don't need to buy 'disposable' plastic versions. Many of the projects are suitable for beginner knitters, and all the basic knitting instructions are included, but there are also more complicated projects including a knitted top and backpack for those with more experience. This is the perfect resource for any knitter wanting to reduce their carbon footprint and create wonderful, sustainable projects for their friends and family.

Create sensational crochet throws and accessories with this indispensable guide to mosaic crochet. Mosaic crochet is a cutting-edge technique that allows you to work two-colour patterns without having to change yarns in one row. You simply skip stitches in one row and connect them by filling in with the alternate colour two rows later. This produces incredible modern geometric patterns that look amazing as throws, blankets, afghans, pillows, rugs, bags and other accessories - using a much easier method than other crochet colourwork techniques. One crochet hook and two balls of yarn are all you need to get started. While it might look complex, mosaic crochet is actually incredibly straightforward once you learn the basic techniques. If you can work a chain, a double crochet (US single crochet) and a treble crochet (US double crochet), then you can mosaic crochet (...and if you can't, don't worry, all the stitches you need are covered in the book). And what's even better is that there are minimal ends to sew in because it works on a two-row method with the yarn carried up the side of the work. In the only book on the subject, crochet designer Esme Crick of Red Sparrow Crochet, shows you how to make 12 bold, statement throws and then how to use the same pattern to create a further 12 spin-off designs for smaller projects, showing how using different yarn colours with the same pattern can create completely different results. In Mosaic Crochet Workshop, Esme shares her skills, passion and gentle humour with you, so that you too can create beautiful throws and stylish homewares whatever your crochet level. And it's not just about slavishly following a pattern, but about building your confidence to make these designs your own, exploring the possibilities of colour and being inspired to start your own design adventures along the way. With full step-by-step guidance on the mosaic stitch, charts for all the mosaic crochet patterns, and 24 projects to make with full written patterns, this stylish modern crochet book will change the way you approach crochet colourwork forever and give you a wealth of beautiful throws and accessories for your home.
