Devotional Hours with the Bible is an eight volume set, Volume IV studies From Solomon to Malachi. There are two methods of studying the Bible. One is, verse by verse, giving close thought to every word, even looking into etymology and grammatical construction, so that the exact sense of the text may be learned. Commentaries that take us over the Bible in this microscopic way are valuable. We need every particle of light on the Scriptures we can get. Then another way of studying the Bible-is in order to get from it practical lessons for our own daily common life. What does the passage teach us? What Divine instructions have we in it for ourselves? Devotional Hours with the Bible is an eight volume set by J. R. Miller. The set includes: Volume I From the Creation to the Exodus (ISBN: 978-1-61203-199-6) Volume II From the Exodus through the Life of David (ISBN: 978-1-61203-200-9) Volume III From the Psalms (ISBN: 978-1-61203-201-6) Volume IV From Solomon to Malachi (ISBN: 978-1-61203-202-3) Volume V From the Gospels, on the Life of Christ (ISBN: 978-1-61203-203-0) Volume VI From the Gospel of Matthew (ISBN: 978-1-61203-204-7) Volume VII From the Gospel of John (ISBN: 978-1-61203-205-4) Volume VIII From the Acts, the Epistles and Revelation (ISBN: 978-1-61203-206-1) James Russell Miller was a popular Christian author, Editorial Superintendent of the Presbyterian Board of Publication, and pastor of several churches in Pennsylvania and Illinois. The Revelations of Divine Love is a book of Christian mystical devotions written by Julian of Norwich. It is believed to be the first published book in the English language to be written by a woman. At the age of thirty, 13 May 1373, Julian was struck with a serious illness. As she prayed and prepared for death, she received a series of sixteen visions on the Passion of Christ and the Virgin Mary. Saved from the brink of death, Julian of Norwich dedicated her life to solitary prayer and the contemplation of the visions she had received. She wrote a short account of her visions probably soon after the event. About twenty or thirty years after her illness, near the end of the fourteenth century, she wrote down her visions and her understanding of them. This is the Grace Warrack translation that brought this great work the recognition it desrved.

Aiden Wilson Tozer (1897-1963) was an American Christian pastor, preacher, author, magazine editor, Bible conference speaker and spiritual mentor. Hailing from a tiny farming community in western Pennsylvania, his conversion was as a teenager in Akron, Ohio. In 1919, five years after his conversion, and without formal theological training, Tozer accepted an offer to pastor his first church. This began 44 years of ministry. He was also a prolific author. Among the more than 40 books that he authored, at least two are regarded as Christian classics: The Pursuit of God and The Knowledge of the Holy. His books impress on the reader the possibility and necessity for a deeper relationship with God.Living a simple and non-materialistic lifestyle, he and his wife never owned a car, preferring bus and train travel. Even after becoming a well-known Christian author, Tozer signed away much of his royalties to those who were in need.Prayer was of vital personal importance for Tozer. "His preaching as well as his writings were but extensions of his prayer life," comments his biographer, James L. Snyder, in the book, In Pursuit of God: The Life of A.W. Tozer. "He had the ability to make his listeners face themselves in the light of what God was saying to them," writes Snyder.
Heyward directly addresses our vulnerability to terror, especially its religious and political aspects. Examining six images of God--God of War, God of Peace, God as Father, God as Spirit. God in us, and God in all--the author locates an authentic religious response in a healthy balancing of God-images, while religiously motivated violence stems from absolutist theories that fix on only one image of an inexhaustible deity. Stressing mutuality and openness, Heyward sketches a creative Christian response to violence, terror, and war.

Middle Eastern myth and sacred story, Desert Wisdom offers a fresh

generated three (or more) of the world's great religions. "Why am I here? Who am I? And how do I love?"
Emanuel Swedenborg, born Emanuel Swedberg (1688-1772) was a Swedish scientist, philosopher, Christian mystic and theologian. Emanuel studied physics, mechanics, and philosophy, read and wrote poetry. He had a prolific career as an inventor and scientist. In 1715 he devoted himself to natural science and engineering projects for the next two decades. From 1716 to 1718 Swedenborg published a scientific periodical entitled Daedalus Hyperboreus (The Nordic Daedalus). At the age of fifty-six he entered into a spiritual phase, in which he experienced dreams and visions. This culminated in a spiritual awakening, where he claimed he was appointed by the Lord to write a heavenly doctrine to reform Christianity. For the remaining 28 years of his life, he wrote and published 18 theological works, of which the best known was Heaven and Hell (1758) and several unpublished theological works. His other works include: Angelic Wisdom Concerning the Divine Love and the Divine Wisdom (1763), Angelic Wisdom About Divine Providence, Spiritual Life and the Word of God and Heaven and its Wonders and Hell.
Prayer is something that is needed everyday. Not just because we want something from God and the Spirits; pray to show gratitude. Saying thank you goes a long way! To God and the Spirits, it does not matter where you were born. It is where you are going that counts. Like an Old Irish proverb: It is not what you came for, but what did you leave with. For an example, if your reading comes 7-7, Odi-Meji, you can read psalms 77 and asked and pray for guidance. This way, you will have a better understanding what has been said; the individual gains greater wisdom. Place your Spirit and Mind in order, for daily living, when following daily instructions, as given. Knowledge is given as a blessing or a curse, use it wisely

The Stations of the Cross is an excellent resource for Lenten studies, individual devotional use, sermon preparation, or parish planning. As outspoken in his day as Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens are today, American freethinker and author ROBERT GREEN INGERSOLL (1833-1899) was a notorious radical whose uncompromising views on religion and slavery (they were bad, in his opinion), women's suffrage (a good idea, he believed), and other contentious matters of his era made him a wildly popular orator and critic of 19th-century American culture and public life. As a speaker dedicated to expanding intellectual horizons and celebrating the value of skepticism, Ingersoll spoke frequently on such topics as atheism, freedom from the pressures of conformity, and the lives of philosophers who espoused such concepts. This collection of his most famous speeches includes the lectures: [ "The Gods" (1872) [ "Humboldt" (1869) [ "Thomas Paine" (1870) [ "Individuality" (1873) [ "Heretics and Heresies" (1874)

From the very beginning of the church, Christians have found it
helpful to pause for prayer during various times of the day.
Whether for morning or evening devotions or other fixed-time
prayers, such spiritual respites were deemed essential to
worshiping God. Over the years, Christians developed a structure
for such moments of worship, keyed to the time of day and season of
the year. Part of its genius was the seamless integration of
Scripture and prayer. This ancient practice, called the "Daily
Office," has experienced a resurgence of use in our time.
Music and liturgy seem inseparable, yet we seldom pause to ponder their relationship in depth. In this volume, Kathleen Harmon offers her own insights by creatively exploring the complex interplay between congregational singing and the liturgical celebration of the paschal mystery: ' Harmon asserts that liturgical music, in the form of communal singing, is a vehicle through which the ritual reenactment of the paschal mystery is effected. ' She addresses concrete and practical pastoral applications of the relationship between music and liturgy. She focuses on how the liturgical singing of the assembly creates the collective consciousness of church as the Body of Christ. ' Music, then, is much more than just a component of liturgy; it is, in Harmon's view, absolutely constitutive both of liturgy's deepest essence and its fullest realization. Professional music scholars, graduate students, music directors, and anyone else seeking a sophisticated analysis of liturgical music will find this volume a rich sourcebook of new ideas. Kathleen Harmon, SNDdeN, is the music director for programs of the Institute for Liturgical Ministry in Dayton, Ohio and contributor to Living Liturgy: Spirituality, Celebration, and Catechesis for Sundays and Solemnities, an annual resource published by Liturgical Press. She is also a columnist for Liturgical Ministry and serves as director of music for St. Paul Parish in Englewood, Ohio.
The ministry of prayer has been the peculiar distinction of all of God's saints. This has been the secret of their power. The energy and the soul of their work has been the closet. The need of help outside of man being so great, man's natural inability to always judge kindly, justly, and truly, and to act the Golden Rule, so prayer is enjoined by Christ to enable man to act in all these things according to the Divine will. By prayer, the ability is secured to feel the law of love, to speak according to the law of love, and to do everything in harmony with the law of love.
