Wehrmacht and W-SS as well as commemoratives such as the U-47
submarine.

Reich Cutlery, its Monograms, Logos, and Maker Marks details a

"In the early transition from the long-lived flintlock system,
handgun development closely paralleled that of the long arms. With
the advent of the revolving pistols, however; came patents that
created monopolies in revolver production and the through-bored
cylinder necessary for self-contained metallic cartridges. The
caplock revolvers took on a separate evolution and remained state
of the art long after the widespread appearance of cartridge firing
rifles and shotguns. They rode in the holsters of of explorers and
adventurers across the world and granted safe conduct in the
back-alleys of the Industrial West right up until the last quarter
of the 19th Century. Handguns possess a mystique distinctly
different from that of other firearms. They are tools of personal
empowerment-chosen by their owners to provide independence and
freedom of movement. In the ambitious, optimistic early years of
western industrial civilization they were the emblem of liberty and
equality and the bane of repressive governments and social
movements. Largely because of the traditions that emerged in the
time of the caplock pistols and revolvers, they remain so in the
early years of the 21st Century."

This three volume set on World War II German swords by LTC (Ret.)
Thomas M. Johnson, a leading collector and authoritative
researcher, is a follow-up to his successful and highly acclaimed
four volume series on World War II German daggers by Schiffer
Publishing (1995). Johnson is the author of some twenty-six
reference books on the subject of German edged weaponry. This sword
series has been designed to aid not only the beginning collector,
but also the seasoned advanced collector and specialist. These
volumes are the result of many years of arduous research conducted
on both sides of the Atlantic, and are a scholarly study that is
more than a perfunctory annotation and illustration of the known
basis patterns. Also, the series is a study of a culture and the
crafts that actually produced the blades, as well as being a manual
in the art of collecting them. The embracing scope is both
educational and recreational, and adds a whole new dimension to
this popular collecting subject as a whole. Within these books one
finds the historical background, the manufacturing techniques,
constructional information, the actual basic patterns, variations
and rarities, and a whole host of salient facts of absorbing
interest.
The M9 has been the United States Army's standard bayonet for over
two decades - with no plans in sight to replace it. In fact, it is
already the longest serving American bayonet, joining the M-16 as
an enduring symbol of the American soldier. Without exaggeration,
it has become an icon of the American Army in much the same way as
the Gladius became symbolic of the Roman Legions. This book chiefly
focuses on the M9, its manufacturers, evolution, variations,
accessories, and collectability with the objective to spotlight
only those M9s of military issue. Beyond that, the intention is to
provide fellow collectors with a reference and a tool that will
enhance their collecting experience through objective data as well
as personal knowledge and experience. There is no other bayonet in
all of American military history which possesses such a one of a
kind individualism while at the same time displaying so obvious an
American personality of design as the M9!
Armies of the Napoleonic Era provides a complete overview of the
tactics, organisation, uniforms, equipment, weapons and actions
fought during those dynamic years 1792-1815, when revolutionary
France reshaped Europe before being forced back into a more
conventional pattern of life. Digby Smith has studied first class
source data from many European museums, archives, numerous
regimental histories, contemporary official handbooks and private
diaries, and has distilled this mass of information into a work
covering all the standing armies of the Napoleonic era. Technical
data on the artillery of the various states include the chemical
make-up of gunpowders, fuzes and incendiary bombs; the dimensions,
performances and effects of cannon, howitzers and mortars, shot,
shell and canister; and the dimensions, calibre and performance of
muskets, carbines, rifles and pistols. The tactics of artillery,
cavalry and infantry-are explained and each nation has its own
section in which uniform development and regimental history are
described. A brief summary of the campaigns and actions in which
that nation was involved is also included. An appendix gives an
overall summary of all battles and major clashes between 1792-1815.
A wide selection of illustrations and diagrams complements this
unique work, which will be of incalculable value as a reference
work to serious students of the period, modelers and wargamers.
This book examines what the citizen soldiery of the mid-Atlantic
states wore when they marched off to save the Union in 1861. An
exhaustive search of thousands of newspapers has provided a myriad
of reports and personal accounts from soldiers' letters, which
offer a hitherto unpublished view of the stirring events during the
first few months of the Civil War. Combined with fascinating detail
from numerous diaries and regimental histories, this has helped
reconstruct the appearance of the Union volunteers of Pennsylvania,
New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and the District of
Columbia. The book is enhanced by photographs of original items of
uniforms from private collections, plus imagery of the day, which
show with remarkable clarity the great variety of clothing and
headgear worn. Sponsored by the Company of Military Historians,
this is an essential reference for collectors, living historians,
modelers, and curators, as well as anyone with a general interest
in the Civil War.
