This natural sea sponge is of a type commonly called “Honeycomb Sponges”.Growing naturally on the sea bed, their surfaces are irregular and varied making them ideal for use by specialist decorators and artists who wish to obtain “random” effects when applying paints.Sponges are also used, of course, for washing and bathing due to the copious amounts of liquid that they can retain.Honeycombs are one of over 5000 different types of sponge all of which have their own characteristics and their own advantages and disadvantages for the user. “Honeycombs”are expensive compared to others available but they should be robust enough for continued and prolonged use in decorative sponging.For less expensive sponges please look at our “Grass” sponges shown elsewhere on our website.

Turner’s Milk Paint is a water-based paint available in 16 colours which contains casein (a protein extracted from cows-milk) from Morinaga milk and uses acrylic as a binder. These paints dry to a matte, water-resistant finish and can be used on walls, wooden furniture, signs or interiors for a streaky or mottled ‘antique’ look. The range includes 16 muted pastel tones which replicate the rustic appearance of early American furniture.Turner Milk Paints should be applied in two or more thin layers to a clean (i.e. dust-, dirt- and oil-free) surface which has a slight grain or tooth. They are not suitable for use on extremely smooth surfaces such as PVC, glass or plastic unless the surface in question has been prepared with the Turner Multi Primer (see below). Please be aware that casein is a non-flexible paint which should only be applied to rigid supports such as thick paper or card, wood, metal or cement. Application to a flexible support such as canvas may result in cracking.Because Turner’s Milk Paint contains natural ingredients, it must be stored away from direct sunlight and from sources of heat and humidity.
