Learn to make authentic, delicious, and easy Dominican meals with
Vanessa Mota, creator of the popular food blog My Dominican
Kitchen. In The Dominican Kitchen, Vanessa brings the heart and
soul of the recipes that she grew up with in the Dominican Republic
to your busy life. Created with easy-to-find ingredients and
featuring comforting traditional flavors, Vanessa's recipes are
designed for modern parents like her who don't have tons of time to
spend perfecting a classic recipe, but who want to feed their
families well every day. Born and raised in the Dominican Republic,
Vanessa moved to New York City when she was 14, where she enjoyed
exploring cuisines from around the world-but always maintained her
passion for traditional Dominican food. Later, when she was married
and expecting a baby, she found herself craving all the delicious
homemade meals her mom and abuela (grandmother) made. She started
her blog to share what she learned from recreating her favorite
dishes, and The Dominican Kitchen expands this mission. Bring your
family together with these and more flavorful recipes: Yuca

Down-Home Comfort Foods at Their Best Everyone who knew Norma Jean
McQueen Haydel knew that she's a supreme cook and that she was the
steward of the McQueen family recipes. But she didn't measure when
she cooked. Or write things down. Norma Jean's brother Horace got
to worrying about this. He cooked, too, but his repertoire wasn't
as vast as Norma Jean's. So he began bothering her about writing
down how she made her many dishes. "I didn't want Norma Jean's
recipes, or our Mama's recipes, to be lost. We have kids coming.
And other folks love to eat at my sister's table, too." So the two
got busy recording their treasured family recipes from the South.
This collection of more than 250 dishes includes their best ones.
"This is food you will absolutely enjoy," said Horace.
"Traditional, full of marvelous flavor, 'enhanced' old-timeys."
Norma Jean and Horace put together the full line-up: crawfish
bisque, poblano cream soup, wilted spinach salad, smothered pork
ribs, zesty broasted chicken, baked catfish, cajun rice jambalaya,
stuffed cornbread, five-flavor pound cake, margarita pie, and on
and on.
James Beard Award-winning author Clifford Wright is your guide to
some of the world's most flavorful and spicy cuisines with 75

Mexico to the kimchi of Korea, Cooking with Chiles presents these
recipes with delicious accuracy and authenticity. Each recipe is
marked with an icon indicating the dish's heat level, so it's easy
to identify recipes that will be appropriate for any occasion-from
mild to fiery. If you're a spicy-food lover always on the lookout
for that next hot thing, then Cooking with Chiles is where your
quest ends.
Rhode Islanders have an ongoing fascination with food. Some
attribute this to the state's ethnic mix: a large Italian
population that has an inherent love of food, wine, and the good
life; people of French and Portuguese descent, whose ancestral
recipes are now a part of Rhode Island cuisine; and the Native
Americans who were the first to use the bounty of the sea and land
to prepare their meals. Whatever the reasons, Rhode Island's food
traditions are steeped in history and today are part of a vibrant
food subculture. In The Providence and Rhode Island Cookbook,
author Linda Beaulieu explores the food of the Ocean State,
especially in and around Providence, and reveals how such a small
state can have so many big flavors.
With more than 200 recipes and engaging sidebars about food, local
lore, and state history, this book celebrates the dishes and
culinary terms that are unique to Rhode Island. Home cooks will
learn how to make their own Wimpy Skippys (spinach pies) or
Zeppoles, and visitors will discover what a quahog is, how a
cabinet can fit neatly in their hand, and why an Awful, Awful isn't
awful at all.
