In a journey through the history of science, we find in each stage of humankind and in each geographical region, the evolution of the anatomical and physiological concept of the eye globe. The anatomic history of the eye globe is a collection of drawings (of public domain, reviewed and authorized to be published by Palibrio Publishing ) that shows us the concepts of anatomists, from old ages until today. First, it was the simple sketching, then the artistic drawing, later the post mortem micro-photography technique, until we got now the in vivo and dynamic study of tissues. The current diagnostic and treatment equipment with a resolution power that has micron and femtosecond as limits in distance and time, we will soon have new information to reconsider concepts that we believed true until now.

Included are Louis Braille, Judah Folkman, Harold Ridley and many others who have enabled us to see in all kinds of unimaginable ways.
Out of Sight, Not Out of Mind presents a personal account of living successfully with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), combined with powerful new information on effective service delivery. Ninety-three-year old Lindy Bergman illustrates the ways in which life with low vision can be lived with independence, dignity, and personal satisfaction. Also included are highly informative chapters, written by the world-renowned experts from The Chicago Lighthouse for People Who are Blind or Visually Impaired, encompassing the latest information about the causes and treatment of AMD; a concise, informative overviews of the effects of aging on vision, the emotional and psychological components of vision loss and the integration of the individual's psychological recovery into low vision service delivery; and a cutting-edge model of rehabilitation that meets the challenges of service provision today. Foreword by Jonathan Safran Foer, award-winning author of Everything Is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Blindness or serious vision impairment is one of the most feared disabilities known to humankind. A 2016 report compiled by the National Eye Institute (NEI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Prevent Blindness America states that although half of all blindness can be prevented, the number of people who suffer vision loss continues to increase. The technique of dynamic light scattering (DLS) was developed by physicists in the late 1960s to early 1970s. DLS is now emerging as a potential ophthalmic tool, making possible studies of virtually every tissue and fluid comprising the eye, thus pushing the envelope for broader applications in ophthalmology. This book presents a comprehensive review of the application of light scattering in clinical use. It is the first of its kind, offering insight to how DLS can be applied to the human eye as well as animals. Chapters discuss DLS in neurological diseases, including protocols, informed consent, and patents. Dynamic Light Scattering Spectroscopy of the Human Eye is a must-have resource for physicians, engineers, and physicists interested in the clinical application of DLS to diagnose and potentially treat medical conditions in a non-invasive, quantitative and novel way.

For the millions of people with untreatable blindness the thought of a visual prosthesis that would allow them to live a normal life has always been a distant hope. There have been intermittent bright spots that periodically fan that hope such as when Dr. Dobelle's visual prosthesis patient drove a car in an empty parking lot. This book will serve as an update of the work in developing a visual prosthesis. Chapters discuss the physiologic and engineering issues, alternative strategies, and patents, as well as recent research studies. Visual Prosthesis - A Concise Guide is a must-have resource for ophthalmologists, neurologists, engineers and physicists.
Optical Coherence Tomography A Clinical Atlas of Retinal Images By Darrin A. Landry, CRA OCT-C Overview Optical Coherence Tomography, A Clinical Atlas of Retinal Images is a richly illustrated and comprehensive guide to identifying anatomy and pathology of retinal disease as illustrated on OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography). Pertinent tips to acquiring quality images are outlined with both Spectral Domain and Time Domain for disease pathology, with multiple examples of common retinal disease images. Since the advent of OCT, the landscape of clinical ophthalmic and optometric practice has been drastically altered. Armed with the ability to image multiple retinal layers, it has become more important for the imaging technician, as well as the clinical practitioner, to be able to identify not only retinal pathology, but retinal anatomy as well. As important is the knowledge to differentiate pathology from artifact, and to provide quality, consistent OCT images. Over 300 examples of retinal disease pathology are illustrated in this full color book to assist the imager in identifying retinal disease, how it presents on OCT and to descriptively interpret OCT images. A well regarded teacher and lecturer in the field of ophthalmic imaging for the past 20 years, and the author of Retinal Imaging Simplified, Darrin Landry provides a clear and concise format for the imager and clinical practitioner to descriptively interpret OCT images. In a textbook that is an invaluable source for both imagers and clinical practitioners and ideal for the beginner and the advanced retinal imager, Optical Coherence Tomography A Clinical Atlas of Retinal Image provides valuable resources in the application of OCT, and assists the imager in providing consistent quality clinical OCT images. Dr. Brelvi, a SUNY: Optometry graduate and an 18-year veteran of Clinical Optometry, throws down the gauntlet to the next generation of Vision Therapy clinicians, not only in the US but also around the world. He challenges them to adopt a much-needed optometric model in the Cognitive Neurosciences, in order to effectively address the burgeoning fields of Autism, various Neurological Dysfunctions and Learning Disabilities. According to Dr. Brelvi, the frontiers of scientific discovery are defined as much by the tools available for clinical observation and monitoring as by conceptual innovation. Optometrists or Optometric physicians have historically studied the visual system in toto to understand the subtle nuances associated with a spectrum of learning disabilities. Dr. Brelvi feels that the time is now ripe for Optometry to broaden its scientific horizons and venture into the Cognitive realm of neurological dysfunctions. By introducing the new discipline of Cognitive Optometry, Dr. Brelvi envisions fellow clinicians to recognize the key role played by the visual system in the complex process of cognition, which gives rise to the gift of sentience in modern Homo sapiens. In his view, what marks Cognitive Optometry as an emerging discipline in the Neuro-Clinical Sciences is the study of anomalous mental activity as a visual information-processing problem. It rests on the premise that our perceptions, thoughts and social behavior depend on the ability of the visual system to evaluate and collate sensory information correctly. Perceptual representations taking place in various regions of the brain need to be translated into successful goal-oriented behavior in afflicted patients tohelp lead more productive and rewarding lifestyles.
