Quilts and Christmas are the perfect blend. This is a quilting-arts
book for creative sewists who love and cherish the poem "The Night
Before Christmas." This book commemorates the 200th anniversary of
the writing in 1822 and publication in 1823 of this most notable
holiday poem. The poem has provided 10 generations of children with
delight and anticipation of Christmas. The poem, illustrated with
29 festive quilted scenes, offers a beautiful-to-read family
experience, and nine antique and vintage quilts are patterned here,
with complete instructions, to inspire today's quiltmakers to
create their own holiday bed coverings. The nine patterns are
appropriately named after the eight reindeer and, of course,
Rudolph. Some patterns are re-creations from old, traditional quilt
designs, while others put a modern spin on a vintage design. Some
patterns can be hand-pieced, while others use fast, new,
rotary-cutting techniques.
Once a year, tens of thousands undergo a pilgrimage to Houston,
Texas, for the International Quilt Festival-an enormous confluence
of exhibitions, shopping, competitions, educational opportunities,
and, most importantly, a gathering of kindred spirits like no
other. Standing behind this magical show are two of the most
influential trailblazers and business leaders in the quilting
industry. Karey Patterson Bresenhan and Nancy O'Bryant Puentes are
cousins who were raised as sisters, and their shared history is a
colorful story of five generations of quilters. Through numerous
interviews, Teresa Duryea Wong shares a mosaic of memories and
histories not only from Karey and Nancy, but from an array of
quilters and Festival-goers. With nearly 200 photos spanning more
than half a century, Magic & Memories celebrates the resilience
and passion of all who love quilts-young and old, beginner and
expert, traditional and contemporary-and the history they make.
Kumiko Frydl demonstrates her knowledge and talent in this book
which illustrates a variety of techniques including free-motion
quilting, applique, English paper piecing, hand and machine
quilting and silk ribbon embroidery. Learn to craft 15 exquisite,
intricately worked miniature quilts, each on a different theme -
including ornate roses, whimsical pineapples, a stunning beach
scene and a Wedgwood-inspired pattern in blue and white. Kumiko
guides you carefully through each project using detailed
step-by-step instructions, diagrams and close-up photographs of the
finished piece. All the templates and stitching patterns are
provided on a fold-out sheet at the back of the book.
Nancy Crow: Drawings: Monoprints and Riffs is a beautifully
illustrated catalog showcasing the newest work of renowned artist
Nancy Crow. Over the last decade Crow has transformed her
quiltmaking by developing a unique monoprinting technique.
Monoprinting on cotton fabric, she focuses on drawn lines, layered
one upon another, that result in a complex visual tangle. The work
in this series simultaneously produces both clarity and depth. In
her Riff and Drawing: Riff series, Crow has continued to explore
her "drawing with fabric" approach. In these works Crow
improvisationally cuts through layers of highly saturated hand-dyed
fabrics, creating crisp forms with slight curves and undulations
caused by subtle movements of her arm, which are then stitched
together in dynamic compositions. This catalog includes Crow's
descriptions of these innovative techniques as well as candid
musings on her personal journey as a driven, passionate artist. In
addition, Crow's work is discussed in an essay by Jean Robertson,
Chancellor's Professor Emerita of Art History at the Herron School
of Art and Design at Indiana University-Purdue University. Also
featured is a foreword by David Hornung, professor of art and art
history at Adelphi University, New York. The catalog accompanies a
2020 exhibition of Crow's work at the International Quilt Museum,
University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
"Barn quilts are rural gifts, a bright spot along America's
highways and byways. As a quilter myself, the simple sight of a
barn quilt has often made my heart smile. We recognize the blocks,
they speak to us without words. This book captures everything I
love about barn quilts with beautiful photos and captivating
details. Where will you spy your next barn quilt?" -Bonnie K.
Hunter, Quiltville.comSuzi Parron, in cooperation with Donna Sue
Groves, documented the massive public art project known as the barn
quilt trail in her 2012 book Barn Quilts and the American Quilt
Trail Movement. The first of these projects began in 2001, when
Groves and community members created a series of twenty painted
quilt squares in Adams County, Ohio. Since then, barn quilts have
spread throughout forty-eight states and several Canadian
provinces. In Following the Barn Quilt Trail, Parron brings readers
along as she, her new love, Glen, their dog Gracie, and their
converted bus Ruby, leave the stationary life behind. Suzi and Glen
follow the barn quilt trail through thirty states across thirteen
thousand miles as Suzi collects the stories behind the brightly
painted squares. With plentiful color photographs, this endearing
hybrid of memoir and travelogue is for quilt lovers, Americana and
folk art enthusiasts, or anyone up for a good story.
Created to commemorate the author's 40th anniversary of falling in
love with her husband (and making her first quilt for him!), you
can read the story behind each block, then make it personal by
stitching in your own memories and using blank blocks for personal
dedications. Piece and applique the stunning sampler quilt, or pick
and choose your blocks and setting to suit your own needs and
taste.
Show off your large-scale prints and add a WOW factor to your
quilts. Take advantage of the surprising designs that appear as you
stack and cut triangles, diamonds, flat pyramids, gem shapes, and
more. Each beautiful block design frames a unique kaleidoscope
hexagon, for stunning results! Select from 38 hexagonal blocks, 7
setting triangles, 12 quilt layouts, and 5 pieced borders.
