A collection of 365 different sashiko patterns to sew - one for
every day of the year. Sashiko sewing expert, Susan Briscoe,
demonstrates 365 different sashiko patterns, one for each day of
the year - sew all 365 to make a beautiful sashiko quilt featuring
all the designs Each sashiko pattern is stitched onto a
four-and-a-half-inch square piece of fabric making it very
accessible to sew one swatch every day. You can record the date of
each sample you stitch in the book to create a record of your
sewing. All of the stitch patterns are illustrated with a
photograph of the stitched sample showing some stitches in
different coloured thread (this is used by the author to identify
which stitches to do first), next to a diagram showing the stitch
direction and the order of the stitches on the grid. All the
patterns are sewn on four-and-a-half-inch fabric swatches which can
then be pieced together to create the ultimate double bed sized
sashiko sampler quilt. But as well as sewing the samples separately
to make them into a large bed-sized quilt, the patterns can also be
repeated to create larger designs over a wider surface area to make
wall hangings, throws, table mats and smaller quilts - with this
collection of 365 designs the possibilities are endless. Sashiko
embroidery is a decorative sewing technique from Japan which was
traditionally used to reinforce clothing and other textiles. It is
an ideal stitch for visible mending and has become incredibly
popular over the last few years. The technique of sewing horizontal
and vertical stitches makes extremely attractive geometric designs
that can be adapted to suit a wide range of sewing projects. Susan
Briscoe is an expert in Japanese sewing techniques and has
travelled to Japan numerous times. She is the author of the
best-selling Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook and runs regular workshops
teaching sashiko sewing. This is the first time all of these 365
designs will appear in one book. Susan has included the Japanese
name and pattern type in the text and has grouped specific design
patterns together so you can see how they develop and use the
collection to build your skills and knowledge of sashiko patterns.
A line is any shape distilled to its most basic form - a minimalist
composition. The chapters of Line|Outline will guide quilters in an
exploration of the beauty of the line beginning with pure lines,
through the outlines of various shapes and, finally, to lines that
form pictures. Each of the five chapters includes two to three
larger projects and one small project. Both solid and print fabrics
will be used.
The ultimate guide to achieving beautiful and inspirational quilt
blocks. Modern Japanese quilting uses Eastern and Western
techniques to create quilts of extraordinary beauty. This book is a
treasury of more than 125 block designs, characterised by their use
of beautiful oriental textiles, unusual motifs and striking colour
combinations. Choose from patchwork, applique and sashiko blocks,
organised into themed sections based on geometric, pictorial and
family crest designs. All the techniques you will need are clearly
demonstrated. Each design features a photograph, clear
instructional diagram or template, fabric palette and cutting
guide, and instructions for making the block. At-a-glance icons
indicate skill level and techniques used. All of the blocks can be
mixed and matched, and you will find examples of fail-safe block
combinations for stylish quilts, from tessellated all-over patterns
to spectacular sampler quilts.

With his unerring eye, Kaffe has succeeded in finding the perfect
location for his exquisite new collection of quilts, featuring both
his scintillating new fabric designs and his classics, all in his
unique color palette. This time he has chosen the medieval English
village of Lavenham in Suffolk, where the 19 quilts in this book
are set off against the ancient half-timbered Tudor houses. They
are displayed in all their glory in a sumptuous eye-catching quilt
gallery. Included in this set of new designs are many very special
ones by Kaffe, and several by his long-time friend and co-designer,
Liza Prior Lucy. Kaffe's Starry Night, featured on the cover, fussy
cuts some of his brilliant floral fabrics in deep rich colors to
great effect, setting them off by surrounding stars in his Shot
Cottons. Shards translates the traditional Broken Dishes design
into deliciously soft and subtle blends of pastel fabrics, shown
off to perfection against the pale plaster and weathered timbers of
the Lavenham houses. In a quite different vein, the boldly
contrasting background stripes in black and white fabric in
Blooming Columns make a dramatic contrast to the huge fussy-cut
flowers appliqued onto it. This book--the 23rd in the
series--includes a range of quilts for all skill levels, from
beginners to advanced. Shaded Squares is one such lovely quilt for
first timers, with its cleverly shaded squares each made up from
two large triangles, one plain and one striped in Kaffe's Shot
Cotton and Wide Stripe fabrics. Flat shots, a practical know-how
section and glossary, back up the fully illustrated, step-by-step
instructions for each quilt.
Designer Myra Harder presents time-honored Amish quilts along with
a modern reinterpretation of each bold, graphic design. With varied
color palettes and construction methods, she achieves dramatically
different looks. Find two distinct patterns for every design: one
traditionally Amish, one modern for a total of 16 extraordinary
projects Explore the versatility of quilt designs such as
Pineapple, Log Cabin, and Ohio Star Achieve effective results
whether you prefer classic Amish solids or a brighter, lighter
palette in prints
The folk artists of Italy have created some of the most beautiful
crafts in the world: laces, mosaics, leatherwork, quilting, and
wood inlay are among the most well-known. In this vintage book,
originally published in 1977, Janet and Alex D Amato explore these
traditional Italian crafts as well as others not so well known,
such as tambour (a kind of crocheting worked directly into a
fabric), straw marquetry (a mosaic-like craft done with tiny pieces
of straw), wood carving and quillwork. They explain each craft as
it was originally practiced, then adapt it to make contemporary
craft pieces. The projects include an embroidered full length
apron, a bobbin lace wall hanging, a straw marquetry box, jewelry,
and many more. Also included are instructions for a Presepio (a
traditional Italian manger scene) and a Pinocchio marionette.
Italian Crafts will teach you the traditional folk arts of Italy,
and will inspire you to use those folk arts in new and creative
ways. There are line drawings and photographs throughout this
unique book."
