serpentwithfeet is not only imagining, but exploring a world wherein Black love is paramount. His new album, DEACON, is "a study rather than a story," delving into Black, gay love and the tenderness present in the best companionships, romantic or otherwise. Fully self-actualized and more devoted than ever to personal fulfilment, DEACON highlights his growth as a songwriter, which he credits to taking a more straightforward approach to expression. Spending time with pop songwriters and observing how they traverse language encouraged serpent to take more risks lyrically, resulting in more purity.

LaVette! hits all the marks. Together with Jay-Vee Records, Bettye has the freedom to explore new territory. Produced by Steve Jordan, LaVette! features 11 songs written by Georgia-born musician Randall Bramblett, who has been releasing solo albums since 1975. "Randall is the best writer that I have heard in the last 30 years," says Bettye. "He writes songs that are little soliloquies, they're like little stories about a moment, or a thing."
Featuring Anthony Hamilton, John Mayer, Jon Batiste, Steve Winwood, Pedrito Martinez and Ray Parker Jr.
The vinyl features an extra track, "What You Didn't Say".
