To sharpen your pencil, you need to pinch the handles on the top of the chuck, pull the chuck away from the main body of the sharpener, and insert your pencil as far as possible before releasing the handles. The chuck will then grip the pencil and hold the tip against the sharpening mechanism. As you turn the handle on the back of the sharpener, the sharpening cylinder will revolve around the pencil, shaving away the wood and sharpening the lead to a fine point. Once the pencil is sharp, you will be able to turn the handle without resistance. At this point, release the chuck again and take out your sharpened pencil. Faber-Castell Lead Pointer is a simple lead sharpener for 2mm and 3.15mm leads. The quality of a sharpener, in particular the blade, is absolutely necessary in order to ensure that wood-clad pencils are sharpened to a correct, very thin and useful point. Coloured pencils however can only be sharpened due to their soft lead to a much shorter and blunter point. It is important to replace your sharpener in order to make sure the blade remains sharp and at its best and will not break leads. Find out more about the variety of sharpeners available on our blog.
The Blackwing Long Point Sharpener creates a long point using a two-step sharpening process. The first hole sharpens the wood first and the second hole precisely sharpens the graphite core to a long, fine point. The automatic brake within the sharpener prevents the pencil from over-sharpening. Each sharpener features a matt rubberised finish for added grip and includes two replacement steel blades.
This Faber Castell 9000 sharpener has two sharpening holes and is suitable for coloured pencils and graphite pencils. It has a compartment which will catch the shavings from wood-clad pencils. When not in use, the sharpening apparatus will slide down into a plastic case so that graphite dust cannot fall out of the sharpening holes.Because the leads of graphite pencils are hard and resistant to breakages, they can take a very fine point. For pencils such as these, the Castell 9000 has a fine point sharpener, which will sharpen pencils to a 21 degree point. For coloured pencils, which have softer leads, this product also has a shorter point sharpener. This will sharpen pencils to a 24 degree point. This product should be replaced from time to time, as use will mean that the blade will blunten over time. It can sharpen leads on their own or whilst in a mechanical pencil and automatically stops when the lead is sufficiently sharpened. It has two gauging holes: one will produce an extremely fine point for drawing, and the other a standard point for writing.Directions for use:Place the lead of the clutch pencil in either of the gauging holes. These are the holes marked with a triangle, either side of the circular white cleaning pad.Press the end of the clutch pencil to release the lead into the gauging hole.Let the clutch pencil clasp the lead again and lift the lead from the gauging hole. The lead will be protruding from the clasp, which will then ensure it is sharpened to either a moderate or a sharp point, depending on which gauging hole is used.Place the pencil into the large sharpening hole and spin the lid of the sharpener round until it offers no resistance. At this point the lead will be fully sharp.Wipe the lead-dust from the point of the pencil using the cleaning pad. To find out more about sharpeners read our blog post on them by clicking here.
