Badlands' long lost, third and final album, Dusk isn't really an
album at all, but a batch of demos recorded between 1991 and 1992
for the group's then label, Atlantic, which first rejected them,
then dropped the band, already mired in personal strife since the
troubled sessions for their commercially disappointing second
album, Voodoo Highway. Accordingly, the tracks that would
eventually surface as Dusk were circulated as bootlegs and would
have likely been mostly forgotten if not for the AIDS-related death
of singer Ray Gillen, in December 1993, and the subsequent rise of
the worldwide web -- both of which undoubtedly helped stimulate
interest in the recordings. This led, in time, to their "official"
release in 1998 by the Pony Canyon label, but it hardly altered the
fact that Dusk's ten tracks were mostly one-take jobs, reportedly
cut by Gillen, guitarist Jake E. Lee, bassist Greg Chaisson, and
drummer Jeff Martin in just six-to-eight hours. So although the
musicianship was impressively solid and the sound acceptable
enough, Dusk's songs lacked the usual refinements of a final album
mix, and some lyrics were even ad-libbed, resulting in a rather
uniform set, devoid of the characteristic variety and bombast heard
on Badlands' first two albums. Instead, most cuts might accurately
be described as competent blues metal (not unlike previous efforts,
just duller), with rare standouts like foreboding opener "Healin',"
the distinctively brash "Walking Attitude," and the notably funky
"Ride the Jack," still draped under a mantle of weary resignation,
reflective of the band's dispirited frame of mind at the time. Also
worth mention, though are "The River" and "Lord Knows" -- two
promising sketches that may, with additional studio seasoning, have
been transformed into powerful, slow-burning blues rockers; as well
as the Eastern-flavored "Sun Red Sun," which contained intriguing
traces of Alice in Chains, then on the rise along with the entire
grunge nation. But, as mentioned earlier, all of the material
collected on Dusk was far too raw and undeveloped for proper
mainstream consumption, making its commercial existence justifiable
only as a parting treasure for avowed Badlands aficionados. ~

A celebration of the career of the Californian funk-rock group, the
Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band formed in 1983 and have enjoyed
enduring success over the course of their career. With the aid of
rare performance footage and interviews with the band and
ex-members, the documentary aims to provide an insight into what
drives the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the obstacles they have
overcome to make it as a popular rock band.
Hailed as one of the modern era s most gifted pop troubadours,
Jason Mraz has shared stages with percussionist Noel "Toca" Rivera
for more than a decade. The two musicians first met back in 2000,
when Mraz was just making his mark on the San Diego coffee house
scene. Enthralled by the young songwriter s free-flowing lyrical
mastery, Rivera invited Mraz to join the eponymous trio he fronted
alongside his brother Carlos. The group hit the road, travelling
California s highways and byways together in a beat-up Winnebago,
inspiring Mraz s classic song, "Dream Life of Rand McNally." When
Carlos decided to take time off, Jason and Toca continued to
collaborate as a duo, earning acclaim and passionate audience
responses wherever they performed. Mraz s guitar and vocals match
beautifully with Rivera s intuitive djembe playing and the two
maintain a long friendship and collaborative relationship,
recording and touring together to this day.
Each CD multipack contains a 16-page booklet with introductions in English, German, French and Spanish and a bonus disc containing synopsis and ibretto with translations.
In October 1995, Oasis unleashed their second set of killer tunes
with '(What's the Story) Morning Glory?' The album took the charts
by storm and became the focal point in the phenomenon now known as
Britpop. With the use of archive footage, long-forgotten videos and
contributions from those around at the time, this documentary
uncovers why the band's second album is arguably their most
satisfying.

On 'Grace & Dignity's origins lie in winter 2020 when Benjamin Woods, aka, The Golden Dregs, lost his job in lockdown and moved back to his parents' house. The only work he could get was as a labourer on a poorly run building site on the grimmest outskirts of Truro. 'It was such a bleak winter - waist - deep in mud digging holes and rolling out turf on top of building waste, really grim stuff, which became the backdrop to the stories I was trying to write', he explains. In among the personal reflections on loss of innocence and inferiority, Woods spins subtly interweaving narratives about survival, desperate acts of violence, loss and the limitations of community in the face of rapacious gentrification. Nevertheless, it is, appropriately for an album about home, somewhere you'll want to spend a while. Life here proceeds at a graceful pace grounded by Woods's deep voice, which seems to resonate from his feet, as he delivers the sort of meticulously written lunar wisdom worthy of Lambchop's Kurt Wagner, or the tidy yet revelatory koans of Silver Jews' David Berman.
2021 release. In spite of the various crises that have occurred since 2017's Native Invader, Tori Amos has emerged with Ocean to Ocean, her most personal work in years - an album bursting with warmth and connection, with deep roots in her earliest song writing. Written during the third lockdown in Cornwall this year, Ocean to Ocean is a universal story of going to rock bottom and renewing yourself all over again.
