October 31st. It's been called everything from "Sowein," "Samhain,"
and "Mischief Eve" to "Devil's Night" and the "Season of the
Witch." Its most common moniker of course is "Halloween." It is
that mysterious night of the year when the veil between reality and
that of the underworld grows so thin as to allow spirits of the
dead to commune with the living. This compendium is a tribute to
the entire month. Hallow Evil is a darkly-delightful panoply of
short fiction and poetry authored by master of horror, Chris Cook.
Herein are thirty-one writings. This collection of peculiar poems,
twisted tales and oft-times humorous pieces are designed to chill
your bones on cool, fall evenings. They can be read throughout the
month of October, one piece per calendar day. Or you may devour the
book in one sitting. However you digest these entrails, make Hallow
Evil a new tradition in your home. When October's winds whistle
through skeletal trees, dust off the hideous cover and crack open
the spine like the creaky lid of a coffin in decay. Read by the
flicker of a Jack-O-Lantern. Settle in for a long night of mystery
and the macabre
Quiver Full of Arrows is a collection of twelve exciting short
stories from bestselling author, Jeffrey Archer. Two friends fall
under the spell of a New York beauty - with an unexpected outcome.
A casual remark is taken seriously by a Chinese sculptor, and the
British Ambassador becomes the owner of a priceless work of art .
An insurance claims adviser has a most surprising encounter on the
train home to Sevenoaks. This marvellous collection of twelve
stories ends with a hauntingly written, atmospheric account of two
undergraduates at Oxford in the 1930s, a tale of bitter rivalry
that ends in a memorable love story.
From the Queen of Crime, the first time all of her spookiest and
most macabre stories have been collected in one volume. 'From
behind the curtains there still sounded the terrible high
long-drawn scream - such a scream as Raoul had never heard. It died
away with a horrible kind of gurgle. Then there came the thud of a
body falling...' For lovers of the supernatural and the macabre
comes this collection of ghostly and chilling tales from Agatha
Christie. Acknowledged the world over as the undisputed Queen of
Crime, in fact she dabbled in her early writing career with
mysteries of a more unearthly kind - stories featuring fantastic
psychic visions, spectres looming in the shadows, encounters with
deities, eerie messages from the Other Side, even a man who
switches bodies with a cat... This haunting compendium gathers
together all of Christie's spookiest and most macabre short
stories, some featuring her timeless detectives Hercule Poirot and
Miss Marple. Finally together in one volume, it shines a light on
the darker side of Agatha Christie, one that she herself relished,
identifying ten of them as 'my own favourite stories written soon
after The Mysterious Affair at Styles, some before that'. Contains
20 stories: The Last Seance * In a Glass Darkly * The Adventure of
the Egyptian Tomb * SOS * The Fourth Man * The Idol House of
Astarte * The Gipsy * Philomel Cottage * The Dream * The Lamp *
Wireless * The Mystery of the Blue Jar * The Blue Geranium * The
Wife of the Kenite * The Strange Case of Sir Arthur Carmichael *
The Call of Wings * The Red Signal * The Flock of Geryon * The
Dressmaker's Doll * The Hound of Death 'Reading a perfectly plotted
Agatha Christie is like crunching into a perfect apple: pure,
crisp, absolute satisfaction.' TANA FRENCH

Jeremy's Cottage is a collection of short stories, all fictional,
in which ordinary people become ensnared in dilemmas, sometimes not
of their own making. Each person asks for help and receives a
message through a chance meeting, a dream, a fleeting thought, or
even what at first appears to be a tragedy. A beloved pet might
hold the solution at times. Each answer sets that person on a path
out of the dilemma.
This is my second collection of short stories. These stories
are about people, their relationships and the many things in life
that affect them. For example, love, sex, marriage, divorce,
betrayal seduction and murder. Some other topics covered are
alcoholism, drug addiction and identity theft, with the primary
emphasis on the impact these things have on people's lives. Check

The last train to leave Cimarron, New Mexico The story of the last
train to leave Cimarron endevors to answer two questions: Why did
the railroad industry pull out of Cimarron, New Mexico and when did
the last train leave? To answer these questions the author
summarizes the history of the Cimarron country, the various people
who worked to develop its lands, natural resources and rail
service. How did the tiny community of Ute Park develop and why did
it not grow into the vacation and recreational community the
railroad executives envisioned. Was a northern railroad through New
Mexico, Arizona and Southern California, going to the Pacific
possible and was it needed? In many places history is driven by
economics, so to understand the railroad history of Cimarron we
also looked at the development of the automobile, truck
transportation, air travel, bus transportation, one speed long hall
railroads, development of the electric diesel locomotive and the
decline of steam driven trains. All of these things are part of the
complete Cimarron rail road saga. Then, there is the story of the
last train.
