The Magic World (1909) is a collection of twelve children's fantasy
stories by English writer Edith Nesbit. Using elements of magic and
mystery familiar to readers of her beloved Bastable and Psammead
Trilogies, Nesbit crafts tales of wonder and adventure for children
and adults alike. In "The Cat-hood of Maurice," a young boy learns
firsthand the consequences of mistreating the family cat. One day,
Maurice attaches an empty sardine can to Lord Hugh's tail,
terrifying and traumatizing the poor cat. When his father gets
home, Maurice is told that he will be spending the next week at Dr.
Strongitharm's school for wayward boys. At the last moment, Maurice
discovers Lord Hugh in his room, who reveals to the boy a magic
word that will turn him into a cat. In "Accidental Magic," a boy
named Quentin is sent to school in Salisbury. Immensely interested
in archaeology and history, Quentin is excited to learn that he
will be able to visit Stonehenge while at school. After getting in
a fight with a bully, Quentin runs away in fear of expulsion and
escapes through the fields toward Stonehenge. There, he searches
for the fabled altar stone, where, exhausted and scared, he falls
asleep. When he wakes up, he finds he has been transported to the
lost world of Atlantis, where the people call him the "Chosen of
the Gods," but fail to reveal what it is he is chosen for. With a
beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript,
this edition of Edith Nesbit's The Magic World is a classic of
English children's literature reimagined for modern readers.

The Newbery-winning fantasy series now available in gorgeous new
paperback editions!
Since "The Book of Three" was first published in 1964, young
readers have been enthralled by the adventures of Taran the
Assistant Pig-Keeper and his quest to become a hero. Taran is
joined by an engaging cast of characters that includes Eilonwy, the
strong-willed and sharp-tongued princess; Fflewddur Fflam, the
hyperbole-prone bard; the ever-faithful Gurgi; and the curmudgeonly
Doli--all of whom have become involved in an epic struggle between
good and evil that shapes the fate of the legendary land of
Prydain. Released over a period of five years, Lloyd Alexander's
beautifully written tales not only captured children's imaginations
but also garnered the highest critical praise.
"The Black Cauldron" was a Newbery Honor Book, and the final volume
in the chronicles, "The High King," crowned the series by winning
the Newbery Medal for "the most distinguished contribution to
American literature for children."
Henry Holt is proud to present this classic series in a new,
redesigned paperback format. The jackets feature stunning art by
acclaimed fantasy artist David Wyatt, giving the books a fresh look
for today's generation of young fantasy lovers. The companion book
of short stories, "The Foundling" is also available in paperback at
this time.
In their more than thirty years in print, the Chronicles of Prydain
have become the standard of excellence in fantasy literature for
children.
This collection of three short stories were written in response to
students requests to read stories that were contemporary and
relevant to their age group. So she began to write, both to
entertain and educate, then through discussion develop the topics.
Each story highlights the difficult problems young adults can
relate to. They portray those, who in the face of sudden and
unprecedented events and adversity, become unlikely stoic heroes
who persevere to change the way things are.

Inklings from Cape Cod is an eclectic mix of traditional and
non-traditional writing lessons and the pieces that they inspired.
Created primarily during a week at a Cape Cod summer workshop, the
book's selections are authored by students in 6th through 12th
grade. The writing pieces featured in Inklings span the gamut from
six word stories, to dramatic drafts and eclectic exercises to
crafty characterizations, private poetry, wordly wonderings,
fabulous fiction, noteworthy nonfiction, lively letters,
sensational settings, toddler tantrums, articulate alliteration,
and trustworthy teaching techniques. This collection, an accolade
to the young authors, has something for readers of all ages,
writers of all levels, and teachers who like to be wowed. This
coffee table text is unique with motivating mini writing lessons
accompanied by the inspiringly creative student responses. The
editor is a seasoned, award winning teacher and published
journalist. Thirty-six extremely motivated, enthusiastic Cape Cod
summer writing workshop students inspired teacher Stephanie
Boosahda to create this anthology. On the third day of the five day
workshop she found herself again saying, "Those pieces were
awesome. Seriously, they should be published." Responding with
total silence, the students from as far away as Michigan and Kansas
joined Cape Cod students in letting Stephanie's words echo, "Those
pieces ... should be published." So, adventure into the diverse
creative writing of these exceptional 6th through 11th graders, and
see why well-know authors have commented: "A joy to read, and an
awesome voyage into the creative minds of young, imaginative
writers..." - John Prophet, author of the Casey Miller Mysteries
"Fascinating and fun to read, with everything from six-word stories
to longer pieces, "Inklings" demonstrates the many ways an inspired
teacher can empower students to discover their creativity and
develop their own unique and powerful voices." - Leslie Meier,
author of the Lucy Stone Mystery series " ... If these young
writers continue honing their craft, the future of American
literature looks very bright, indeed."- Elizabeth Moisan, author of
Master of the Sweet Trade "These collected voices blend together in
a chorale of accomplishment. What a treat to read. What a joy to
know that future novelists, memoirists, and poets have been
fostered in this way to enchant tomorrow's readers." - Kathryn C.
Dunlap, Director; Buzzards Bay Writing Project, Nat'l Writing
Project; University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth "Stephanie's
design of the Workshop clearly provided an atmosphere of safety,
trust, and risk-taking in writing that is obvious in the breadth
and depth of the selections in this anthology. A wonderful read and
a great resource." -K. Victoria Kazer-Townsend, retired English AP
professor Delve into Inklings, enjoy, and be inspired. There's
something for everyone in this eclectic read.
