Journey into China's most rare and valuable stamps.
Stamps tell a story--and Chris West's book is the unique,
fascinating tale of Great Britain told through its stamps.
Hailed by "The Times" of London""as "a splendid reminder of the
philatelic glories of the past," "A History of Britain in 36
Postage Stamps" tells the rich, layered, and breathtaking history
of England through thirty-six of its fascinating, often beautiful,
and sometimes eccentric postage stamps. West shows that stamps have
always mirrored the events, attitudes, and styles of their time.
Through them, one can glimpse the whole epic tale of an empire
unfolding. From the famous Penny Black, printed soon after Queen
Victoria's coronation, to the Victory stamp of 1946, anticipating
the struggle of postwar reconstruction--"A History of Britain in 36
Postage Stamps" is a hugely entertaining and idiosyncratic romp,
told in Chris West's lively prose.
On their own, stamps can be curiosities, even artistic marvels; in
this book, stamps become a window into the larger sweep of
history.

For those who have inherited a stamp collection, want to start a
collection, also for an advanced collector, beginning stamp dealer,
advanced stamp dealer or wish to know if they have a one million
dollar stamp in their collection.
Once again, Jerry Lifsey has shared his enjoyment of stamp booklets
with us. Jerry has one of the largest private collections of stamp
booklets in the world today. Drawing on this extensive collection
and the depth of his personal knowledge, he has been able to show
us the diversity and richness of stamp booklet collecting -- in
this manuscript how stamp booklets can lead us to increase our
happiness.. His book will be of special value to the growing body
of topical stamp collectors. Its organization and numerous
illustrations bring home the benefit - even necessity -- of
including stamp booklets in any modern topical stamp collection. To
Jerry, every stamp booklet opens a door for his reflective and
inquiring mind to explore new aspects of our world. He shows us how
each booklet opens its own avenue to happiness. The reader will
find his formula contagious.

There has never been a more popular time for dinosaurs and all
things dinosaurian. From blockbuster films packed with breathtaking
CGI effects, children's television and video cartoons, computer
games, CD-ROMs, animatronic museum exhibitions, and theme parks, to
countless books, magazines, toys large and small, ornaments,
collectabilia, and even fun lines in confectionery and other
edibles, prehistoric paraphernalia continues to scale new heights
of desirability worldwide. But nowhere is this more apparent than
within the philatelic world - where the issuing in recent years by
an ever-increasing number of countries around the globe of
handsome, highly-prized stamp sets depicting a spectacular array of
dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals is matched only by the
corresponding increase of thematic collectors eager to amass an
eyecatching, comprehensive menagerie of palaeontological monsters
that the custodians of Jurassic Park could only dream about Today,
well over 500 sets of stamps portraying all manner of dinosaurs and
also a multifarious assemblage of other prehistoric animals have
been issued, with a substantial proportion of these having appeared
within the last decade alone - confirming the escalating interest
among collectors in this exciting thematic subject. And who can
blame them? After all, where else but in the pages of a stamp album
could stegosaurs and plesiosaurs, tyrannosaurs and sabre-tooth
tigers, brachiosaurs, mammoths, belemnites, ground sloths, giant
birds, and ichthyosaurs jostle for attention with velociraptors and
trilobites, dimetrodonts and diplodocuses, mosasaurs, woolly
rhinoceroses, Archaeopteryx, titanosaurs, iguanodontids, ammonites,
giant sea scorpions, and innumerable other spectacular denizens of
our planet's distant past? Now, for the very first time, here is a
philatelic catalogue devoted exclusively to these incredible
animals. Compiled by zoologist Dr Karl P.N. Shuker, a lifelong,
enthusiastic collector of wildlife stamps and with an especial
interest in those that portray fossil species, it provides an
exhaustive, definitive listing of stamps and miniature sheets
depicting dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals issued by
countries throughout the world. It also includes sections dealing
with cryptozoological stamps, dinosaur stamp superlatives, and
unofficial prehistoric animal stamps. This invaluable book will
undoubtedly encourage everyone with a passion for dinosaurs and
other prehistoric creatures to pursue it not only on screen, in
books, or in museums but also via the ever-fascinating world of
philately.
The journey continues
This is the second book of the series, "United States Stamps: A
History." It continues the tale of when the Bureau of Engraving and
Printing took over the task of making our stamps. The Bureau would
go on to print almost all United States stamps for the next
century. The book explores why the Bureau took over and the
problems they had when they first started making stamps. But the
Bureau was a quick learner as soon after they would go on and
create the finest group of United States stamps of all time, the
Omaha commemorative series. Next, the first regular series and the
first several commemorative series of the twentieth century are
reviewed. A detour is made to review both all United States postage
due and special delivery stamps since these stamps were introduced
about this time. So discussing them now is both a review and a
preview of all United States stamp production. The last chapter is
a series of updates and corrections. The author realizes that the
knowledge of United States stamps is in continual growth, so this
last chapter keeps the first volume of the series up to date.
This book is a facsimile reprint and may contain imperfections such
as marks, notations, marginalia and flawed pages.
To Which Is Added A Chapter On War And The Stamp Market By W. H. A.
Williams.
A reprint of the classic book written by Edward J. Nankivell, a
member of the Institute of Journalists in London and an avid stamp
collector. He wrote this book to promote the virtues of stamp
collecting as a healthy recreation for everyone from the Price of
Wales to ordinary school children. It was originally published in
1902. The timelessness of his lively arguments is apparent by their
validity today. This book presents a fascinating and charming look
at early stamp collecting. Its very readable narrative also
provides a delightful glimpse into the wider world of pre-World War
I England. The original book included a substantial section
offering stamps and stamp collecting equipment from the original
publisher. That section, as well as other illustrations, has been
reproduced here and offers a unique look at the stamp collecting
world of yesterday. Completely reformatted and typeset for
readability.

Want to learn more about our country's stamps? Do you collect
United States stamps? Perhaps you save stamps from old envelopes or
new issues from the post office. Maybe you are interested in
delving more into the hobby of United States stamp collecting. But
you cannot find a general book on the topic. Sure there are
wonderful catalogs, books on all specific aspects of the hobby, and
even periodicals. The author was so frustrated by not locating a
general information book on United States stamps, he decided to
write one himself! "United States Stamps. A History" is the result
of his efforts. This is the first volume of a series of books on
United Stamps that will cover all aspects of the hobby. It travels
from the stampless covers of the colonial days until the end of the
private company printing of stamps, the Columbian commemorative
issue. The author hopes you enjoy this journey through United
States stamps as much as he enjoyed writing it!
