All seven volumes of Mel Bay's original, internationally acclaimed
Modern Guitar Method series are included in this single, deluxe
master compilation. No other comparable method exists for the
guitar! As Mr. Bay perceived the need for a guitar method that
would effectively teach beginning guitarists to read music, this
method is intentionally written in standard notation only,
providing just enough music theory to understand what the student
is required to play at any given point. Although fingerstyle
technique can be applied to the pieces and studies, this book is
specifically tailored for the plectrum-style player. Contains
hundreds of beginner through advanced solos and duets in all
fretboard positions and all keys, plus all four-note rhythm chord
formations on high, middle and low sets of adjacent strings. This
edition also includes additional outstanding plectrum guitar solo
arrangements not found in the original seven volumes. All in all,
this outstanding method leads the student to total mastery of the
fretboard.
As its title suggests, the Essential Acoustic Playlist is an

this book has a huge selection of favourites to keep you strumming
away for hours. Each song is presented very simply, with lyrics and
chord symbols, so there's no need to be able to read music. The
spiral binding means that the book lays flat wherever you put it,
allowing for maximum strumming pleasure! Chord shapes given are
authentic and sound great on an acoustic guitar. The book features
simple 'lyrics and chords' format; authentic and easy chord shapes
given for every song; includes capo and tuning information where
appropriate and special 'lay-flat' binding.

Get a completely new look at guitar legend Eddie Van Halen with
this groundbreaking oral history, composed of more than fifty hours
of interviews with Eddie himself as well as his family, friends,
and colleagues. When rock legend Eddie Van Halen died of cancer on
October 6, 2020, the entire world seemed to stop and grieve. Since
his band Van Halen burst onto the scene with their self-titled
debut album in 1978, Eddie had been hailed as an icon not only to
fans of rock music and heavy metal, but to performers across all
genres and around the world. Van Halen's debut sounded unlike
anything that listeners had heard before and remains a
quintessential rock album of the era. Over the course of more than
four decades, Eddie gained renown for his innovative guitar
playing, and particularly for popularizing the tapping guitar solo
technique. Unfortunately for Eddie and his legions of fans, he died
before he was ever able to put his life down to paper in his own
words, and much of his compelling backstory has remained
elusive-until now. In Eruption, music journalists Brad Tolinski and
Chris Gill share with fans, new and old alike, a candid,
compulsively readable, and definitive oral history of the most
influential rock guitarist since Jimi Hendrix. It is based on more
than 50+ hours of unreleased interviews they recorded with Eddie
Van Halen over the years, most of them conducted at the legendary
5150 studios at Ed's home in Los Angeles. The heart of Eruption is
drawn from these intimate and wide-ranging talks, as well as
conversations with family, friends, and colleagues. In addition to
discussing his greatest triumphs as a groundbreaking musician,
including an unprecedented dive into Van Halen's masterpiece 1984,
the book also takes an unflinching look at Edward's early struggles
as young Dutch immigrant unable to speak the English language,
which resulted in lifelong issues with social anxiety and substance
abuse. Eruption: Conversations with Eddie Van Halen also examines
his brilliance as an inventor who changed the face of guitar
manufacturing. As entertaining as it is revealing, Eruption is the
closest readers will ever get to hearing Eddie's side of the story
when it comes to his extraordinary life.

New research throws light on the history of the viol after Purcell,
including its revival in the late eighteenth century through
Charles Frederick Abel. It is normally thought that the bass viol
or viola da gamba dropped out of British musical life in the 1690s,
and that Henry Purcell was the last composer to write for it. Peter
Holman shows how the gamba changed its role and function in the
Restoration period under the influence of foreign music and
musicians; how it was played and composed for by the circle of
immigrant musicians around Handel; how it was part of the fashion
for exotic instruments in themiddle of the century; and how the
presence in London of its greatest eighteenth-century exponent,
Charles Frederick Abel, sparked off a revival in the 1760s and 70s.
Later chapters investigate the gamba's role as an emblem of
sensibility among aristocrats, artists, and intellectuals,
including the Countess of Pembroke, Sir Edward Walpole, Ann Ford,
Laurence Sterne, Thomas Gainsborough and Benjamin Franklin, and
trace Abel's influence and legacy far into the nineteenth century.
A concluding chapter is concerned with its role in the developing
early music movement, culminating with Arnold Dolmetsch's first
London concerts with old instruments in 1890. PETER HOLMAN is
Professor of Historical Musicology at Leeds University, and
director of The Parley of Instruments, the choir Psalmody, and the
Suffolk Villages Festival.
