In these 2 volumes Enrique gathers fresh voices and sharp tongues to speak of the art of Tarot as the art of living magically. Forty-seven tarot luminaries (readers, historians, philosophers, magicians, and scientists alike) gather here to offer unique perspectives on what we can think of as divination with bones, human bones. Artists, deck creators, and modern-day neo-platonists follow Enrique's lead, letting themselves be enchanted by the piper at the gate of games. Some of the central questions that Enrique deals with are: do we read for the symbol, or the image? Do we read for the narrative that the cards create or their potential for transformation? Do we read for the plot, the poetry, or the formal properties? We find Enrique holding the torch and asking everybody the same questions: how do we experience the tarot? Through symbolic readings or through interacting with the image? While it is clear that he goes with the latter, he gives everyone a chance to state their preferences. But he doesn't stop there. He wants to see what the argument is for such preferences. What are the motivations in considering where images take us? How do the images do that? Why do we go to fortunetellers? My own contribution to this is to suggest that we read cards for the magic of narrative. We go to fortunetellers to see others play with our lives. Here are 47 of them. -- CAMELIA ELIAS, "HE RECO ME: ENRIQUE ENRIQUEZ'S POETICS OF DIVINATION"

Kirkus Reviews - "A thought-provoking guide to the Tarot with insights for pros and neophytes alike. Pitisci's debut takes an approach to the Tarot that's as multitextured as the cards themselves. Part reference, part instruction, part entertainment, the book delivers a solid foundation on the cards and their basic spreads while also providing fresh perspectives. The bulk of the book consists of an encyclopedia of card meanings, and Pitisci combines pithy traditional interpretations with word associations that play off the images (he sees the Pony Express, for example, in the Knight of Swords). He also includes a quick-reference list of keywords for each card, with some uncommon but plausible reframings of the cards' meanings (the Emperor as Builder, the Moon as Mysterious Paths). Pitisci's card spreads are equally innovative, as he treats them as maps for exploration-layouts for prediction as well as self-discovery, planning and problem-solving. In one novel touch, he borrows from numerology to select a final, unifying card for the Four Winds spread, which looks at a person's mental, physical, spiritual and emotional state. The traditional Celtic Cross spread gains new life through an alternative interpretation that uses the technique of mind-mapping, disconnecting the reading from a formal structure in order to encourage radically creative thinking. The easygoing, conversational tone puts concepts, techniques and suggestions within reach, and the author's decades of experience help to demystify the Tarot. However, seasoned Tarot readers will also find much to ponder here, as Pitisci tilts the usual perspectives and unearths new meaning in well-traveled territory. A worthy addition to any Tarot library, likely to teach new tricks to even the most experienced readers."- Kirkus Reviews

Written by two veteran ritualists with twenty years of experience apiece, it describes magic in terms of spiritual healing, and is especially written for contemporary astrologers (both traditionalists and modernists) who want a more hands-on, ritualized, and astrologically-based spirituality to complement their chart-reading practices. This book is also designed for those interested in ritual magic, the Tarot, and meditative practices as paths to a spiritually-centered life. For those focusing on ritual magic, this book will teach them how to eventually write their own rituals. For those seeking a deeper understanding of the Tarot, it illuminates the astrological powers behind these cards, and for practitioners of meditation, every ritual includes two meditations. Following an extensive introduction full of instruction and hints, including a primer on astrological elections, Astrological Magic contains rituals on all Elements, Planets, and Signs, with a culminating ritual for each group. Tarot meditations and other visualizations, Appendices on incenses and color, and more are included in this invaluable guide to astrological ritual and spirituality.
In Blending Astrology, Numerology and the Tarot, Doris Chase Doane combines these three unique metaphysical techniques to add insight to readings. Information on the tarot is extensive, including how to handle the cards, their astrological symbolism, and the overall philosophical approach of the tarot. This book concludes with an extensive section that demonstrates fourteen different tarot spreads and how to interpret them using astrology, numerology, and the tarot. Spreads include Yes or No for quick questions, the Solar Spread, the Life Spread, the Four Trines Horoscope Spread, the Twelve Houses Horoscope Spread, and the Individual Horoscope Spread.

Discover the true Core of yourself as you deal the cards of Life... THE WHEEL OF DESTINY is a perfect tool for any knowledgeable astrologer, for the Tarot Major Arcana depicts the 12 signs of the Zodiac and the 10 ancient planets. "From the folly and wisdom of The Fool to the nurturing influence of The Chariot to the honor and responsibility inherent in The World, tarot psychic and author Patricia McLaine takes the reader on a memorable and informative spiritual journey through the 22 Major Arcana of the Tarot. After a brief introduction to the system, each chapter begins with a basic presentation of a Key, including such associations as Hebrew letter, key words and occupational aptitudes. Then every possible position of the Key within the Master Spread is discussed for a thorough understanding and ease in interpreting the Life Path of our selves and others. The careful and reflective reader will learn his or her own special role on the Earth plane and in worlds beyond space and time as revealed in our own Wheel of Destiny. "The Wheel of Destiny" is highly recommended reading for all serious students and practitioners of tarot divination and metaphysical studies." James Cox, Midwest Book Review WORLD TAROT NETWORK REVIEW The Wheel of Destiny: The Tarot Reveals Your Master Plan I took this book out of the library because it had a beautiful cover with a picture of The World on the front. At first I ignored the book and had to renew it to read it. Once I began, however, it literally blew me away. It confirmed things I already knew about myself and explained others. Where was this book when I was in my 20's? ... Patricia McLaine is a person you know you would love to meet. She has been involved with Tarot as a divinatory tool for over 40 years. She received the inspiration for this book while meditating on the twenty-two Major Arcana. She equates the information received through her Master Spread with that from a natal or solar horoscope. While the horoscope evolves from the alignment of the Sun, Moon and planets at the time of birth, the Master Spread evolves from contact with the Higher Self, or super consciousness. To quote from the book: "The Master Spread will lead you through unexplored territory, for the painstakingly deliberate design of the Keys provide not only endless discovery concerning your own psyche but take the part of a wise counselor and guide for your excursion through the physical world. Key is an appropriate word for each card of the Major Arcana, fwhich unlocks a door of consciousness that leads to Light, greater wisdom and understanding." This is a very powerful spread and shows underlying causes (conscious or unconscious) that reveal patterns in need of transformation to promote spiritual growth, but also instill self confidence on the earthly plane. Ms. McLaine equates a Master Spread with the essence of a Life Reading. (Having just done mine, I can tell you it is serious and only needs to be done once in your life.) For those who work with the Qabalah, Ms. McLaine presents a well-done section that over-lays the Master Spread on the Tree of Life. I found this book easy to read with a great depth of understanding of Tarot and other systems. I was left with a feeling I had spoken with a very evolved soul.
Here is unfolded the fascinating history and development of the Tarot, from its fifteenth-century beginnings as a conjunct to playing cards, to the massive explosion of its popularity as a system of occult symbolism. Gareth Knight presents his analysis of the basic archetypal principle behind each card and gives practical examples of magical work with the Tarot images in pathworkings and rituals. Several different approaches are adopted which can be used to develop familiarity and skill with the Tarot system. Originally published in 1986 as The Treasure House of Images, and later re-issued in the USA as Tarot & Magic, this new, expanded edition includes six extra chapters, pulling together many of the new insights garnered over the 25 years since it was first published. |
