Books > Christianity > The Bible
The second in a series of six textbooks written by authors who have
extensive experience of teaching students in the first two years of
university level study. It enables students to engage with Letters
and Revelation for themselves, and not just to be passive learners,
and offers activities and challenges at introductory and
intermediate levels, and the key background information needed to
enable them to work at the required level. This new edition
includes updated bibliographies throughout, with numerous
corrections and updates.
The books of 1 and 2 Samuel vividly describe the passing of the age
of the judges and the founding of the Israelite monarchy. We read
of the rise and rule of Samuel, the last and greatest of the
judges, and his role in establishing Saul and, later, David as
kings over Israel. The wars, deceptions, victories, friendship,
intrigue, rivalry, jealousy, and (for David) adultery and family
discord that marked the reigns of these two men ensure that 1 and 2
Samuel are among the most readable - and relevant - books of the
Old Testament. Using personal anecdote, a witty and lively style,
and drawing on his considerable theological knowledge, John
Goldingay takes us deep into the unfolding story of the Old
Testament.
This book is an in-depth study of the Beasts past, present and
future which debunks most of the common and accepted assumptions of
the Antichrist and instead presents a scripturally based study of
he who is to come; The Beast who ascends out of the Abyss having
seven heads and ten horns.

A new and better society has been the constant dream of men and
women. Responding to this dream, John Stott has been attracted back
again and again by Paul's letter to the young church at Ephesus. It
portrays a new society of Christ's making that stands out in bright
relief against our colourless world of oppression, heartache,
separation and division. Paul's letter, with its exultant vision of
a renewed human community, has, says John Stott, 'stirred me
deeply'. John Stott expounds Paul's theme of uniting all things in
Christ by uniting his church and breaking down all that separates
us from God, one ethnic group from another, husband from wife,
parent from child, master from slave. Paul's insights are for all
who want to build the church into the new society God has planned
it to be.
Isabel has walked in a faith Covenant relationship with the LORD,
for approximately thirty years. In 1979 God called her to give up
her work in the secular world, sell all that she owned and go to
the Philippines. She was led into the mountain regions of Kalinga
Apayao, to preach the gospel to the headhunting tribal people. The
LORD worked with her confirming the preaching of His Word, with
miraculous signs and wonders. This is recorded in her latest book,
"THE MESSAGE TO THE CHURCH". She is also the author of Arise and
Reap, Reaping with Joy and Come out of her, my People. In January
2000, Isabel returned to the Philippines on her fifth ministry
mission. She was told by the Lord, to build and oversee a work
which was to be named "Covenant Keepers", as the Lord desired to
raise up a body of people who would walk in a faith Covenant
relationship with Him. All was accomplished by the Lord's leading
and provision. The Lord taught us that He is the Covenant keeping
God, who has redeemed His saints from the curse of the law (Gal.
13:3).The curse of the law is sickness, pain, disease, suffering,
poverty and the second death, which is eternal damnation in the
lake of fire and brimstone (Duet. 28:15-61 & Rev. 21:8). In the
Everlasting Covenant agreement which is sealed with the holy
redeeming blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, God has freely provided
forgiveness of sin, eternal life, imputed righteousness, divine
provision, divine protection, and divine health for His redeemed
saints. To walk in all the blessings of the Everlasting Covenant,
we must first understand what blessings were freely provided in the
Atonement in the Lord Jesus Christ, and take the blessings by
faith. As you apply the teaching in this manual, you will learn to
be a Covenant keeper, who will walk in all the blessings of the
Everlasting Covenant.
A series of short, question-based study guides based around the New
Testament For Everyone series. The series is intended to encourage
church (and other) groups to study the Bible using the For Everyone
model. Experienced Bible study writers have selected excerpts and
written questions that guide users through the thought of Tom
Wright on each passage. These have been reviewed, edited and
approved by Tom Wright. Creation is in anguish. Paul's letter to
the Romans, as well as the merest glance at our world, shows this
clearly. The Church shares in the suffering, groaning in the
tension between the 'already' of possessing the fruit of the Spirit
and the 'not yet' of our present existence. Paul, however, also
makes it abundantly clear that God doesn't stand apart from the
pain. Rather, he entered it through Jesus and dwells in the middle
of it in the Spirit. These studies present the whole picture of a
suffering, sinful world and God's deep love, still working today to
reconcile that world to himself.

John Eaton compares reading the Psalms to walking in the mountains:
'Time and time again you see a new crest to climb, but the summit
remains beyond.' In "Psalms for Life", he explores the poetry as a
never failing source of challenge, comfort and encouragement.
Beginning with Psalm 1 and continuing through to Psalm 150, he
provides a short reflection on each psalm, explaining the poet's
essential message, and ending with a brief meditative prayer.
Readers are helped to identify with the wide range of emotions
expressed in the Psalms and to pray for God's loving guidance in
dealing with them from day to day. As a distinguished biblical
scholar who has studied the Psalms all of his life, John Eaton
writes with warmth, clarity and authority. As a Christian, he sees
the Psalms as prophetic of Christ, revealing vital and often
little-known facts of his life and character. As a sensitive and
skilful teacher, he draws out the full significance of these
ancient songs as a source of wisdom and insight for all who live
the Christian life today.
Euro-American biblical scholarship has traditionally conceived of
the Bible in a way that removes privileged readers from personal
responsibility in the subjugation of marginalized communities.
Peter McLellan terms this practice gentrified biblical scholarship:
readers removed from difference, because of the gentrification of
space in the West, who are left without the conceptual resources to
understand their relationship with the Bible as simultaneous
relationship with minoritized communities. McLellan deploys the
theoretical fields of hauntology and critical space theory to argue
that the Gospel of Mark is a haunted place. A project written
largely in New Jersey's wealthy northern suburbs, each chapter
converses with vignettes from Newark, New Jersey's Ironbound
neighborhood-a low income, largely Latinx and immigrant
community-to explore relations between these two otherwise isolated
locales. The result is a discussion of gentrifications harmful
effects on vibrant communities, made invisible to suburban
Christian readers, and an effort to explore how marginalized people
make persistent demands upon those who hold Mark's Gospel sacred.

treats you. All you must do is to:
- Love God
- Love your neighbor
- Love yourself
- Keep God's commandments
Our God is a God of love. If your attitude is love and your behavior
aligns with his will, then you can unite with him and share in his very
nature and glory. You will leave this world with joy, for as he is, so
are you.
