A fine, 4000 grit multiform synthetic waterstone from Japan. On one edge the curved radius changes from 13mm to 3mm over its length. The opposite edge is tapered at an angle of about 40° making it ideal for sharpening the inside of V tools. The 1000 grit can be described as a medium stone and is used to sharpen to an almost perfect cutting edge. For maintaining inside and outside of gouges and vee tools, the Flexcut SlipStrop consists of a complex moulding with two areas of leather and a bar of a specially developed honing compound (abrasive).

The particular part of the moulding most suited to the chosen tool is rubbed crayon-like with compound and the tool stropped. A mirror finish can be quickly achieved and the resulting razor edge can be maintained by repeating the process many times before resharpening is required. This makes it possible to draw long, fluid lines which twist and curve gracefully, and which taper away rather than terminating in a flat or round edge (like lines drawn with a scorper).
