Lawrence Gum Arabic Powder is the pulverised version of lump gum arabic, the natural gum formed from the sap of the acacia tree. It is used in painting as a dilutant and medium for watercolour and gouache, increasing their strength, shine, and transparency. Printmakers will use the gum arabic in solution form for lithography processing and making sugarlift for etching.

Lawrence Gum Arabic Powder is easily mixed with distilled water, you can use tap water, but regional variations may alter the results slightly. Once mixed keep refrigerated.

Holbein Gum Arabic Paste is a stiff gel impasto medium for watercolours and traditional gouache. Mix with watercolours to thicken the paint and create impasto textures. Increases gloss and will not affect transparency.

It used to be that watercolor painters had few options beyond white paper or a few colored boards. This Pearlescent White ground allows you to turn almost any surface into a luminous white surface suitable for watercolor painting, as well as collage, pastels, pencils and mixed media work.

This plastic tub contains 118ml (4 fl. oz.) of Daniel Smith Pearlescent White Watercolor Ground. The ground makes a white pearlescent paintable area when applied to a white surface, and because it is semi-transparent, it allows the color and/or pattern of the surface it is applied onto to show slightly through the pearlescent sheen. Your transparent and semi-transparent watercolors will have a slight pearlescence effect when painted over the Pearlescent White Ground.

You can paint over an entire surface with the ground or only in areas that you wish to add pearlescent effects, perhaps using the other Daniel Smith Watercolor Grounds in the other areas if you are not applying it onto watercolor paper.

If added to the colour it dries to be waterproof.Avoids dissolving of colour when painted in several layers and allows more possibilities for transparent painting. Sennelier’s Gum Arabic is sourced from the finest gum that Kordofan in Sudan has to offer. It is retained in its raw natural state. The large chunks should be dissolved in cold water slowly and gently in order to preserve the gum’s maximum binding strength. The solution should be stirred frequently during the dissolving process. Once dissolved, a solution very rich in resin is obtained. Gum Arabic is an ideal binder for gouache and watercolour.

Gum arabic is used as a binder for watercolour painting because it dissolves easily in water. Pigment of any color is suspended within the acacia gum in varying amounts, resulting in watercolour paint.

Gum arabic allows more precise control over washes, because it prevents them from flowing or bleeding beyond the brush stroke. Acacia gum also slows the evaporation of water, giving slightly longer working time.

When gum arabic is added to Schmincke Horadam watercolour or gouache the transparency increases as does the flow and gloss of a colour.

Schmincke Aqua Watercolour Lift-Off Medium is applied to watercolour paper before it is painted upon to allow dried colour to be removed, modified or corrected. It is especially useful for watercolours that stain easily which ordinarily would be difficult to remove. The medium must be applied before colour is applied. If you are using very soft, textured watercolour paper the medium will need to be applied purely, for papers which have a stronger sizing the medium should be thinned with water. Testing on a small area/scrap bit of paper before use is recommended. As the Lift-Off Medium dries to a water-insoluble film, it should not be mixed directly with watercolour paint in pans.
