Their second and last album together, recorded in 2005 with
contributions from Orlando 'Cachato' Lpez on bass. Produced by Nick
Gold and beautifully recorded by Jerry Boys, this is the successor
to the GRAMMY winning 'In the Heart of the Moon' which has sold
over 40,000 copies in the UK alone. It is the last album recorded
by both Ali Farka Tour and Cachato Lpez.
These sessions brought together two legends of African music.
The Malian-born guitarist and vocalist Ali Farka Toure was one of
the first African musicians to become well-known outside his own
continent. His music is widely regarded as representing a point of
intersection of traditional Malian music and its North American
cousin, the blues and he became known as the "African John Lee
Hooker". Ali Farka Toure has recorded seven albums for World
Circuit including the acclaimed "Talking Timbuktu", a collaboration
with Ry Cooder.
Toumani Diabate is from a younger generation of Malian
musicians and he comes from a family of exceptional griots. A
master of the kora, a harp unique to West Africa with 21 strings,
he is a performer of truly exceptional virtuosity and creativity.
His cross-cultural approach to music has included collaborations
with the Spanish flamenco group Ketama, bluesman Taj Mahal, the
West African kora player Ballake Sissoko and pop star Bjork.
Great album title, but can the music inside live up to it? The
answer's a resounding yes as it celebrates very contemporary Jewish
culture and shows that klezmer (and beyond) is not only alive, but
also growing in the millennium. It's a global phenomenon, as the
variety of music shows, whether in the U.S. (Hip-Hop Hoodios) or
Europe (Amsterdam Klezmer Band, stunningly remixed). What this
illustrates is that Jewish music works as well in a club as any
other, but with a distinct identity that remains throughout, but
one that defies easy stereotyping. Kudos to the compilers who've
put together such an impressive disc. To be fair, it's made more
for the dancefloor than sitting and listening at home -- it
certainly lives up to its funky subtitle - but there's plenty hear
to satisfy even the most demanding ears. ~ Chris Nickson

Ontario folk band Tanglefoot was formed in 1980 by three
schoolteachers on a mission to bring Canadian history to life for
their students. Dressing up in period costumes, the band acted out
historical dramas while performing traditional Canadian folk music
and eventually went on to write material of their own. WAY MORE
LIVE captures Tanglefoot in a trio of concerts recorded live at
Toronto's Flying Cloud Folk Club in May 2003, performing a
selection of songs that includes "Radioman," "Closer to the Ocean,"
"McCurdy's Boy," "Traighli Bay," and many more. These concerts
marked the departure of founding member Joe Grant and introduced
new fiddler Terry Snider.
