This book is a minor project undertaken for the partial fulfillment
for the degree of Master of Arts in Sociology in the Department of
Sociology, Tezpur Uiversity under supervision of Prof. Chandan Kr.
Sharma. The social significance of Assam-Nagaland Border Conflict
and its impact on the foothills is undeniably of extreme relevance
so far as myriads of problem that have been plaguing the region in
recent times is concerned. Of late the issue has drawn the
attention of a large section of the intelligentsia in the country.
The book tries to analyze the perpetual crisis in the region since
India gained independence in 1947. It also throws light on
post-colonial Indian state approach to the region, internal
displacement, social exclusions, identity politics, etc. While
addressing the problem of foothills the book tries to say that it
is essential to sort out the border issue in a sustainable and
mutually acceptable manner. In doing so the stakeholders should opt
for a historically informed people centric approach. The book
includes a large body of original data, documentation and field
works with major players and stake holders.
