A brazen neighbor in a flimsy robe who shows up at his door asking
to use his shower -Bigoted busybodies -Men who take him to an
"unusual" house party Are Ben Friedman's encounters with these
quirky people in his new community enough to send the
sixty-four-year-old retired dentist back to Long Island, New York?
Ben, a widower, who moved to Florida to enjoy warm weather, golf
and the beach, does briefly consider going back. Concerned about
fitting in, Ben had qualms about making the move in the first
place. But when he finds friends who share his interests and
realizes that the odd people are the exception, he begins to enjoy
an active social life. Although Ben is not looking for romance, he
meets three special women--a caregiver for her sick husband, a
psychiatrist with a secret, a former dental patient--and has a
unique relationship with each of them. Guided by the wisdom of his
deceased wife, who speaks to him in his dreams, he makes choices
and ultimately moves on.
