Substance abuse takes a terrible toll on the public health, public
safety and financial resources of the United States. The
Administration's national drug control policy seeks to reduce
Americans' drug use and its related health, social and criminal
problems. To help meet this goal, the Administration has developed
five demand reduction priority areas. The Administration is
requesting $151.3 million in new funding across the Federal
government to strengthen efforts to detect and prevent and treat
illicit drug use in our communities and break the cycle of illicit
drug use, crime, and incarceration. This book provides an overview
of the National Drug Control Strategy for fiscal year 2011 and an
examination of issues for consideration in reauthorising the Office
of National Drug Control Policy.
