Mozambique's moves to plan for sustainable development are of vital
interest to neighbouring South Africa. Dominated until recently by
destruction rather than development, Mozambique in the late-1990s
is working towards building sustainable development. The
contributions and research here are the work of government
ministers, NGOs andacademics pursuing this end. Among the topics
covered are: governance and decentralization; creating industrial
development projects; harmonizing formal and customary law in the
management of natural resources; improving the management of the
coastal zone; environmental education; managing water resources;
and the impact of gold mining. North America: Africa World Press;
