Action-packed and funny, this is one of the best examples of the typical "buddy cop" movies which were so common in the 90's. This one set the bar, which, to be honest still hasn't be reached, although Bad Boys
comes pretty close. What sets this movie in a league of its own is the script, written by master scribe, Shane Black.
The action is fast and furious, and the mile-a-minute jokes are hip and hilarious. The comedy interplay and tough-guy chemistry between the two stars is also another key factor, with this being the kind of role Bruce Willis does best, the trash-talking, down-and-out good guy with a heart of gold. He's ably matched by an impressive Damon Wayans, who unfortunately after this great role disappeared into mediocrity.
The film is directed by action-maestro Tony Scott, who went on to direct Crimson Tide, Man On Fire and Deja Vu. This movie is also notable for featuring the gorgeous Halle Berry in one of her first film roles. All in all, a brilliant action comedy. (5 out of 5, by Carlisle Johnson)
The Last Boy Scout
is the Super Bowl of action movies, a flat-out blitz of excitement, blow-you-away special effects and hilarious gimme-five humour set against the world of pro football.
Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans star as a seedy detective and a disgraced quarterback, teaming to dodge ambushes, fire off one-liners and bust chops. When the going gets tough, they get tougher. And funnier.
They came to play. And to settle a score in this raging fireball where bigger is better, hits are harder and bad guys end up deader.
