This title presents the experiences of Scottish soldiers during the
Second World War in their own words, from the brutal hardships
suffered by General Slim's "forgotten" 14th Army to the
deprivations of the Siege of Malta. Wherever the British Army
fought, Scots could be found shouldering their share of the
hardship and the fighting. Using remarkable new firsthand testimony
collected from interviews with surviving veterans, as well as
material collected from diaries and letters never before published,
the author focuses on the accounts of those Scots who served in all
theaters of war and in all services. Over 50,000 Scottish
servicemen and women died during World War II and, by highlighting
the experiences of those Scots who did survive, this book serves as
a reminder of the sacrifice of those who did not.
