Edgar Fahs Smith (1854 -1928) was an American scientist who is best
known today for his interests in the history of chemistry. Smith
was a co-founder of the American Chemical Society's History of
Chemistry division. James Cutbush An American Chemist, 1788-1823 is
the story on one of a group of men in the early 1800's who brought
chemistry to the laity. Cutbush is noted for his work in
pyrotechnics. He was appointed to the army with the rank of
assistant apothecary-general in 1814. He was chief medical officer
at West Point. Cutbush authored " Useful Cabinet" (1808);"
Philosophy of Experimental Chemistry" (1813); and "Treatise on
Pyrotechnics" (Philadelphia, 1825).
