Chabrier's orchestral showpiece was composed in 1883 and received
its premiere in November of that year in Paris under the baton of
Charles Lamoreaux, founder of the now famous orchestra bearing his
name. Inspired by a vacation to Spain taken the year before its
composition, Espana is a superb example of the Spanish-genre
showpiece - featuring driving rhythms, brilliant orchestral colors
and folk-derived melodies. This new score is a reduced-sized
reissue of the newly-engraved, thoroughly researched and corrected
edition prepared by Clinton F. Nieweg and Nancy M. Bradburd in
2008.
