The Paper Tiger "So ya think ya got what it takes to be a clown in
my circus, kid?" Those words marked the beginning of the Kid's new
life. They were his ticket out of Newton, New Jersey and away from
the Emiliani Home for Boys. "Ya need a circus name if yer gonna
ride with us," Boris explained through another cloud of smoke. "Yer
name's gonna be 'Kid', kid. Got that?" Boris's eyes once more
peered doggedly at Mark. As the Kid pairs up with Keyman to learn
the ropes of circus life, he discovers the working world does not
come with a safety net. Mark Baxter joined Circus Magnifico as an
untested youth, but over the course of the summer learned what it
takes to survive as a man.
