Large demand of designer in China leads to students seeking a
Western education in preparation for design careers in local
market. Western universities increased in the population of
overseas students to ensure their sustained survival in the global
education market. However, does the design curriculum offered in
Western cultures meet the needs of the local Chinese economy? Do
they need to be different or not? And if so, what is an appropriate
model within each culture? The research findings may be of interest
to: government organisations, HE institutions, industry/employers,
and/or for the areas of economic development and school
development. Further, the research findings may be applicable to
the question regarding whether to adapt or standardise design
education, and is similar to that facing any organisation working
in a global context.
