The world has fallen under the control of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation controlling the planet's very life force as mako energy. In the sprawling city of Midgar, an anti-Shinra organization calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their resistance. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra's elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the group, unaware of the epic consequences that await him.

A spectacular reimagining of one of the most visionary games ever, the first game in this project will be set in the eclectic city of Midgar and presents a fully standalone gaming experience.

Review This Product

Great game for newcomers and action RPG lovers

Mon, 21 Dec 2020 | Review by: Jonathan Brownlee D'Urban Davies

Having only played a few hours of the original Final Fantasy VII, I enjoyed the mostly endearing and well told story (it has its cheesy and nonsensical moments, but that's to be expected considering Nomura is the father of the Kingdom Hearts series!), lovely spell effects and character models (a few low quality environmental textures here and there), and the mostly satisfying and thrilling combat (some frustrating moments such as being repeatedly stun locked or party wiped in NORMAL mode - felt more like Hard Mode at times!). If you've never played the original FF VII, I don't think you'll be very lost or missing out on much plot-wise, although you might want to at least read a synopsis or watch a Let's Play of it to get the gist so that the callbacks and twists in this remake hit harder. That's what I did and I had a pretty good ride. If you're have played and beaten the original FF VII and are willing to accept this remake is actually a sequel in disguise and therefore doesn't follow the original 1 for 1 (and only covers Midgar!), then give this a go.
