A powerful and innovative documentary, Flee explores one of the most important issues of the 21st century through one individual’s story.
It recounts the story of Amin Nawabi as he grapples with a painful secret he's kept hidden for 20 years, one that could threaten to derail the life he has built for himself and his soon-to-be husband. Depicted mostly through animation, the film shows Amin finally sharing the story of his extraordinary journey as a child refugee from Afghanistan with his close friend, Flee's director Jonas Poher Rasmussen.
The film is Poher Rasmussen’s first foray into the realm of animated documentary, which boasts executive producers Riz Ahmed (Mogul Mowgli, Sound of Metal) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Headhunters), and made history when it became the first film ever to be nominated for the categories of Best International Feature Film, Best Documentary Feature and Best Animated Feature at the 2022 Academy Awards
