The beginning of the University of Alabama's rise to one of the
all-time winningest programs in the history of college football
started with a diminuative sportswriter from Cleveland, Ohio named
Xen C. Scott. In the Fall of 1919 he went south to start a seasonal
job as head football coach at Alabama. During his four season
tenure, he laid the foundation that would transform the school's
football program from a moderately successful regional program to
one of the greatest programs in the country. Because of his
contributions to the rise of Alabama Crimson Tide football, Scott
will always be remembered as a damn good Yankee.
