Fur den Zeitraum vom Abschluss des Wiener Konkordats 1448 bis zur Sakularisation 1803 unterzieht der Autor die verfassungsrechtlichen Grundzuge von insgesamt 74 mitteleuropaischen Domkapiteln einer vergleichenden Analyse. Vor dem Hintergrund der geschichtlichen Entwicklungen tritt bei der Untersuchung der inneren Organisation, der Kollation der Kanonikate und AEmter sowie der Idoneitatskriterien und Obliegenheiten ein vielschichtiges Bild zutage. So kann der Autor neben einer bemerkenswerten rechtlichen Vielfalt auch gemeinsame Rechtstraditionen aufzeigen.
