Out of work, but with plenty of money, Jack Johanson is looking to get his life together and save his relationship with Emilee, who still wants her career as a TV weather personality. Pocketing $500 million from the sale of his computer business the only productive thing he has done lately is restoring Sunny Hill his family's Northern Wisconsin retreat. Faced with the dilemma of how to keep his relationship in place, they decide to search the USA looking for a deserving "winner" of a $10 million payoff. Just as important it gives Jack something to focus on in his forced early retirement. They put together a contest with six candidates conniving for the top prize. With the new focus, Jack finds out that there is more to life than the business world and money. Included is an understanding of hardship, the universe, religion, politics and relationships. Their search is intermixed with Emilee's on location weather assignments and the ups and downs of their relationship. There are three Sunny Hill get togethers highlighted by the strategies of the contestants to gain votes for the big giveaway.
