The third novel by L.F. Robertson, starring death row attorney Janet Moodie.
When Greg Ferrante is found shot to death at the side of his swimming pool, suspicion turns immediately on his once-glamorous wife, Sunny, now worn down by years of living under his thumb. Sure, there's no way she could have pulled the trigger, but soon she is arrested anyway, accused of hiring her daughter's boyfriend to commit the crime. In a whirlwind trial, Sunny is convicted and sentenced to death.
And then, for a decade, she waits on death row, until Janet Moodie, appeals attorney, delves into the case. One thing Janet is sure of: Sunny is innocent. But her client is hiding something. Who is Sunny protecting - and is she really prepared to die to save them?

Slow moving but very interesting novel.
Janet Moodie is approached by Carey Bergmann to help her with the Habeas Corpus case of Sunny Ferrante. Sunny was on death row at The Central California Women’s Facility. She’d been sentenced in 2004 of arranging the murder of her husband, Greg.
Janet Moodie, Carey Bergmann together with Natasha Levin, an investigator, have a year to find evidence to prove that Sunny Ferrante should either face a new trial or by gathering fresh evidence, that she should never have been charged in the first place.
This is the first book I’ve ever read in my long history of reviewing which examines how the justice system works after someone is found guilty of murder and sentenced to death row is then given a chance to appeal their sentence. It is slow moving because trying to find fresh evidence after such a long period of time, is consuming. However, I never for one second lost interest. I loved following Janet’s approach to the new investigation. Her interest in her other clients, whom she regularly visited.
LF Robertson takes us through the daily tasks that Janet Moodie, Carey Bergmann and Natasha Levin must follow in order to ascertain whether there is just cause for a re-trial and this is why the book was such a compulsive read for me. Would they uncover anything new? Can Sunny be saved from death row? I will certainly be reading any new books by this author.
