Originally published in 1928, this book provides an introduction to
the prehistory of South Africa. It was based on an archaeological
tour through South Africa and Southern Rhodesia, undertaken by the
author at the invitation of the University of Cape Town. The text
contains chapters on a broad variety of cultural phenomena,
covering aspects of art and technology, together with the broad
interaction between humans and the surrounding environment. A
detailed bibliography, index, and numerous illustrative figures are
also included. This book will be of value to anyone with an
interest in prehistory and archaeology.
