Brian Clough's family are among the many people who describe their
personal memories of the charismatic football manager in this
unique collection of tributes. Brian's widow, Barbara, and their
daughter Elizabeth have provided a rare insight into life with the
man known as the Master Manager. Barbara recalls how they met in
Middlesbrough and how his tremendous generosity remains one of her
over-riding memories of her husband. Elizabeth's memories include
travelling in her Dad's car listening to Frank Sinatra songs.
Brian's brother Joe and sister Doreen also recount their memories
in this book compiled by journalist and author Marcus Alton, who is
the editor of the tribute website, brianclough.com. This collection
of anecdotes and tributes includes contributions from fans, friends
and former players, collected by Marcus since he set-up the
non-profit-making website over 10 years ago. Those who worked
closely with Old Big 'Ead describe memorable times in his company -
including the TV producer who captured unique footage of Cloughie
in his back garden as he sang a surprise tribute to his old friend
and commentator, Brian Moore. There is no doubt that an encounter
with Cloughie was usually unforgettable - as this book illustrates.
Just ask the fan whose car broke down on the A52 (now Brian Clough
Way) only to hear a knock on his window and an offer of help from -
yes, you guessed it. A former player describes for the first time
how he threw a bucket of water over Cloughie by accident. You can
guess the result! Marcus Alton's royalties from this book are going
to the Brian Clough Memorial Fund, which is run by the Clough
family and gives money to the types of good causes that Brian
supported. Fans may think they have heard all there is to know
about Cloughie. But this book has many untold stories and tributes,
demonstrating how he touched so many lives and won admirers around
the world.
