This volume contains a detailed listing of over 60 maps and
surveys, 24 illustrations of maps, abstracts of three substantial
surveys of Acland properties in Devon, Somerset and Cornwall, and
an abstract of correspondence betweenthe Aclands and Alexander Law,
one of the principal surveyors used by the family. It shows the
commissioning of maps by one aristocratic family and expands our
knowledge of the relationship between patrons and those who drew
the maps and executed the surveys for them. The volume provides an
invaluable source for family and local historians in Devon,
Somerset and Cornwall, as well as those interested in the history
of agriculture and of the landscape.
