Hurricane Mitch had severe effects on the environment and industry
of Central America. In October 1998 the storm dropped between one
and six inches of rain on the region within a six day period,
killing 11,000 people, destroying homes of 3 millions people, and
destroying 70 percent of the transportation infrastructure in
Honduras.
